A Building Surveyor at Erewash Borough Council will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the planned and reactive maintenance for the council’s property assets.

What You Will Do

  • Help maintain and improve the Council’s buildings by planning, delivering and reviewing both planned and reactive maintenance programmes.
  • Carry out building condition inspections, monitor contractor performance, and update maintenance plans.
  • Ensure strong health and safety compliance and support colleagues in Engineering, Building Compliance, and Corporate Health & Safety.
  • Make informed decisions about maintenance and repair work prioritisation.
  • Manage budgets, monitor spending, and certify contractor payments in line with contract requirements.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external partners to support sustainability, energy efficiency, and the effective delivery of building projects.

About You

  • Experience managing maintenance programmes, building inspections, contract administration, and PPM in line with BS8210 and supervising construction works.
  • CITB-SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of construction, building pathology, procurement, H&S legislation, and IT skills.
  • A valid driving licence and access to own vehicle.
  • Professional qualification (RICS, CIOB, CABE) is ideal.
  • NEBOSH Construction certificate.
  • Knowledge of sustainability, CAD, and local government environments.
  • Degree or HNC/HND in building construction.
