About the Role

We are looking for a proactive and customer-focused Revenues Officer to join our team. You will play a key role in the administration and collection of Council Tax and Business Rates, ensuring compliance with legislation while delivering excellent service to residents and businesses.

Key responsibilities

  • Billing & Collection: Accurately process Council Tax and Business Rates accounts, including setting up new accounts, issuing bills, and managing amendments.
  • Customer Service: Provide clear, professional advice to customers via phone, email, and in person, resolving queries promptly and effectively.
  • Debt Recovery: Implement recovery procedures for unpaid accounts, including reminders, summonses, and enforcement action in line with statutory requirements. Negotiate repayment directly with debtors and liaise with external agencies to secure payment.
  • Data Management: Maintain accurate records and ensure data integrity across all systems.
  • Compliance: Apply relevant legislation, policies, and procedures to ensure fair and consistent treatment of all customers.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams and external partners (such as enforcement agents) to achieve collection targets.

About You

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex legislation is desirable.
  • IT literate ideally with experience using revenues systems (e.g. Civica, or similar).
  • Previous experience in local taxation or a similar financial environment.
