Join the Heart of Heritage at Erewash Museum! Erewash Borough Council’s Wellbeing and Culture Service is looking for enthusiastic, people-focused individuals to join our vibrant Culture and Heritage Team at the beloved Erewash Museum in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Nestled in an 18th-century townhouse, Erewash Museum is a local gem. We’re seeking team members to help deliver engaging experiences – from lively events and educational programmes to behind-the-scenes operations that keep our museum running smoothly.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Welcoming visitors with warmth and enthusiasm
  • Assisting with retail, catering, and front‑of‑house duties
  • Helping maintain the museum’s historic site and facilities
  • Supporting events, exhibitions, and school holiday activities
  • Leading interactive sessions with young people and community groups
  • Working alongside staff and volunteers to deliver cultural programming

This is a hands‑on role involving a mix of physical tasks (including cleaning, manual handling, occasional working at height) and desk-based work. Flexibility, initiative, and a friendly approach are key!

Shifts & Schedule

  • The museum is open to the public Thursday to Saturday 11am to 4pm – during school holidays the museum extends its operations
  • Casual positions with shifts based on service needs
  • Saturday working is essential
  • Extra shifts are available during school holidays and for weekday education programmes (delivered Monday to Friday)
  • Flexibility to work at short notice is desirable

Qualifications

You will need Food Hygiene Level 2 and First Aid qualifications, or be willing to complete training, and hold recognised Maths and English qualifications. The successful candidate must also undertake a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check and have the right to work in the UK. We are open to applicants from diverse backgrounds and experience levels – whether you are building experience in the heritage sector or bringing a wealth of public-facing know‑how.
