We have a superb opportunity for an Operations Supervisor for a Charity in Manchester which has a commitment to reducing food waste and food poverty. The organisations they support provide vital services alongside food services ranging from homeless shelters to food clubs and pantries, and from disability charities to school breakfast clubs, across just about every sector.

About the companyOur client is a registered charity which exists to improve the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of local people, first and foremost in Greater Manchester. They do this by promoting the understanding and practice of the real \’3Rs\’ of sustainable resource and waste management – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Together with their sister social enterprise, they want to create a world in which the real 3Rs are second nature, people cherish and innately value resources, nobody goes hungry and food is used for good rather than being wasted.

About the roleAs Operations Supervisor you will be a core part of the FareShare Greater Manchester operations team. This role splits its key responsibilities between the Food Allocations and Warehouse teams to effectively redistribute surplus food to our Community Food Members (CFMs). You\’ll be involved in a wide range of duties including :

Receiving food deliveries from suppliersQuickly and accurately recording goods-inInputting information into our databaseSpeaking with our CFMs to confirm their ordersSupervising staff and volunteers in the WarehousePicking and packing ordersKeeping compliance-related paperwork accurate and up-to-dateEnsuring we meet relevant Food Safety and Health & Safety standards at all times.

The vast majority of food waste occurs in the food supply chain, before it even reaches the supermarket. Working with the FareShare Network, FareShare Greater Manchester saves quality surplus food from manufacturers and food retailers at both a regional and national level. In 2020 they saved over 2,704 tonnes of food, which was enough for 6,392,434 meals.
