Our client is looking for an Automation Sales Engineer to join their robotics engineering company based in Milton Keynes to meet the growing demand for CNC automation. In this role, you will mainly be field-based, covering the UK and Ireland. Some overnights are likely, so please only apply if you are willing and able to travel.

About the company: Our client is one of the UK’s leading firms that provide automation solutions to engineering companies. Their products include barfeeding and robotic automation equipment as well as other precision engineering solutions.

About the role: As the Automation Sales Engineer is a new role, the company will be training a person with a passion for selling automation equipment to customers. You will be responsible to the Sales Director with a focus on an existing CNC machine tool base.

Responsibilities include:

  • Selling the full range of company automation products into new prospects as well as existing customers, ensuring repeat business and customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrating the benefits of automation to potential customers within the industry; identifying company products that suit customer applications.

About the responsibilities: In the role of Automation Sales Engineer, your duties will include:

  • A sales focus on standard automation systems within the company’s portfolio.
  • Visiting end users to create opportunities and develop relationships.
  • Highlighting and understanding the customer’s needs to automate and adapt the portfolio of products.
  • Planning and preparing for tailored presentations.
  • Proposing possible new methods of manufacturing processes utilising automation.
  • Demonstrating the effectiveness/results of automation to potential customers.
  • Updating CRM system; creating monthly reports.
  • Ensuring technical limitations are set and communicating these with the automation team.
  • Working closely with the Sales Director and the automation team to ensure all information is effectively communicated.

About you: Previous experience of working in a machine tool environment is important and you should have an understanding of CNC machines and be familiar with machining processes. To be successful for the role of Automation Sales Engineer, you will have/be:

  • A passion for engineering and keen to progress within the industry.
  • Enjoy the challenge of selling automation as a concept and apply this to the products within the portfolio.
  • The role is customer-facing so you need to possess strong communication skills and be able to provide excellent customer service; the role would be suitable for someone eager to progress from a machine shop environment into sales.

Requirements and skills:

  • Ability to creatively explain and present concepts in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Solid technical background with understanding and/or hands-on experience in CNCs.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel, some overnight stays.
  • Commercial awareness to margins.
  • Social media updates; an active role.
