Job Description: We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic Junior Knitwear Designer to form our knitwear team at Erdem. You will work closely with the Senior Knitwear Designer and Product Developer to develop innovative knitwear collections from initial concept to final production. This position is a very important support role, working as a small team on a growing category, so requires someone with some yarn, technical and practical knowledge as well as previous experiences working with knitwear. Crochet skills are a bonus. This role would suit someone passionate about knitwear who has a positive energy towards their work as well as being proactive in more organisational and administrative tasks. This is an exciting hands-on role working across different categories such as embroidery and print, it requires an organised, hardworking individual wanting to gain lots of experience and be part of creating each seasonal collection. You need to be able to work under leadership as well as take initiative and is always willing to learn.
Key roles and responsibilities:
- Research seasonal concepts, yarns and techniques, assisting in the development of mood boards.
- Creating mock ups both through physical draping, creating toiles, manipulating knit samples, through collage as well as digitally.
- Adjusting artworks, creating artworks, print placements and editing digital print files.
- Making knit and crochet swatches / detail and finishing trials.
- Help create seasonal knit colour pallet and any dye to match swatching.
- Be responsible for updating and launching carry over knit programs and buttons.
- Assist in the technical development of each season; tech pack updates, sketching and yarn enquiries.
- Work on Knit/crochet amendments during final SMS, styling week and show times.
- Note taking in meetings, assist with fittings and adjustments for style launches.
- General organisation each season, updating the server, maintain and organise the yarn and swatch library.
- Working with logistics for raising shipments and responsible for receiving and unpacking deliveries.
Requirements:
- A degree in Fashion Design with a clear specialisation or strong portfolio in Knitwear.
- Past experience working on and/or assisting with Knitwear within a brand, company or designer.
- Highly Creative with strong research skills and imagination.
- Good drawing or artistic skills are beneficial.
- An understanding of knit construction, gauges, tension, and yarn properties.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- A proactive attitude and a willingness to learn the commercial side of the fashion industry.
- Crochet skills are a great bonus but not essential.
- Must be able to work well within a team as well as independently, be clear and confident in their communication and able to manage working cross departmentally.
