We are a dynamic and growing accountancy practice providing a broad range of accounting, tax, and advisory services to a diverse portfolio of clients, including sole traders, partnerships, limited companies, and contractors across multiple industries.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Accountant to join our busy team. This role requires someone with strong technical knowledge, excellent client management skills, and the ability to work independently while supporting the wider team.
KEY RESPONSABILITIES:- Monthly bookkeeping and transaction reconciliation using cloud based software such as Xero, Bright Tax, Quickbooks.
- Preparation and submission of VAT returns for the VAT Flat Rate Scheme and standard rate VAT, ensuring Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance.
- Preparation of year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies in accordance with accounting standards and HMRC requirements.
- Attention to detail to identify any accounting anomalies and raise any queries with management.
- Provide tax advice to clients in line with current HMRC guidelines, covering areas such as income tax, corporation tax, capital gains tax, dividend tax, and allowable expenses.
- Managing all client queries quickly and efficiently.
- Manage time and work load effectively to meet strict deadlines.
- Liaise with HMRC on behalf of the client as and when required.
- Keep up to date with changes in tax law, VAT rules, HMRC guidance, and relevant legislation to ensure accurate advice and compliance.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor with Customer Service at the heart of what you do.
- Minimum 3 years' experience working in an accountancy practice environment is essential.
- Minimum qualification requirement if either: ACCA, ACA, or AAT Level 3 (or qualified by experience).
- In-depth knowledge of VAT Flat Rate Scheme rules and applications.
- UK tax system, including corporation tax, and dividend tax.
- Current HMRC guidelines and tax legislation.
- Strong understanding of Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements for VAT and Income Tax.
- Proficient in accountancy software such as Xero, Bright Tax or Quickbooks, or similar, along with Excel and general IT competence.
- Excellent attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain financial concepts simply and clearly to clients.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage workloads, meet deadlines, and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Proactive, client-focused, and solutions-oriented approach with a positive attitude.
- Knowledge of CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) reporting.
- Experience mentoring or supervising.
