We are seeking a resilient and dedicated Cover Supervisor to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school based in Chatham. This is a long-term opportunity starting after the Easter half term, continuing until the end of the academic year, with the potential to extend into the new academic year in September.
This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and who have the confidence and skills to manage extremely challenging behaviour in a structured and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and deliver pre-set lessons across a range of subjects in the absence of teaching staff
- Manage classroom behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy
- Support students with SEMH needs, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment
- Build positive relationships with students to support engagement and progress
- Respond effectively to challenging and sometimes confrontational behaviour
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, support staff, and senior leadership
- Provide feedback to teaching staff on student progress and behaviour
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
- Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- A resilient, patient, and empathetic approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to build rapport and establish boundaries
- Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, or in a similar role (desirable)
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners
- A supportive and experienced team environment
