What does the job involve?

Dogger Bank Offshore Wind Farm, the world's largest offshore wind farm, is being developed in 3 phases. The wind farm is located some 100-150 nautical miles west of South Shields, covering a total area of over 1500km². During the operations phase, maintenance of the wind farm will be conducted from 4 Service Operations Vessels (SOVs) each equipped with a Daughter Craft (DC). The O&M Base, including the warehouse for spare parts and consumables, will be located at Port of Tyne, South Tyneside. Adjacent will be Equinor's flagship UK Central Control Room and Equinor's Renewable Operations Center.

You are utilizing your knowledge to independently solve complex tasks with a short-term operational or tactical impact/risk. You deliver on tasks defined by others (and potentially partly defined by you) with significant impacts on team objectives. You independently communicate within the immediate team, across different areas, and towards key stakeholders, including partners or external parties. You may navigate potentially conflicting agendas. You adhere to established procedures and identify as well as resolve challenges. You proactively seek continuous improvement, embrace change and ambiguity. You demonstrate flexibility to adopt new activities and ways of working, and take ownership of your own work. You follow and comply with safety, ethics, and compliance requirements and align with leadership expectations and company values.

What will my tasks be?

  • During the handover project phase to operations:
  • Undertake relevant training and qualifications to become 400kV Authorised Person and Control Room Engineer.
  • Develop a strong team culture with other operators.
  • Participate in project system design reviews, technical clarifications, acceptance tests, commissioning and handovers to ensure safe and efficient design for operational use.
  • Modify or create necessary work procedures to ensure they enable safe and efficient operations within the CCR operating model.
  • Business travel as required for familiarisation and training.
  • During operations:
    • Provide 24/7 support to operations: maintaining safety and optimising production by operating and proactively monitoring and controlling all plant and equipment. This includes wind turbines, balance of plant and electrical system infrastructure.
    • Act as a central point of contact in emergency response and incident management.
    • Perform Control Engineer duties under the Equinor Renewable Electrical Safety Rules, including switching operations.
    • Coordinate with external stakeholders to schedule and coordinate equipment/plant downtimes for maintenance and operational activities.
    • Manage the safe release of plant under the appropriate safe system of work and report operational faults and risks.
    • Issue, receive and react to instructions and provide notifications to and from Grid and external agencies.
    • Identify and assess operational risks and implement appropriate control measures in order to optimize maintenance activities to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency.
    • Support integration of future wind farms into the UK CCR, including commissioning.
    • In the event of business continuity plan activation, be prepared to perform duties from the remote Control Centre Locations.

    • HND, degree or equivalent in an electrical background (relevant experience may compensate for formal qualifications).
    • Experience of working in a Control Room environment or working with SCADA systems within power highly desirable.
    • Knowledge of Wind Turbine and HV safety rules and safe systems of work desirable.
    • Excellent knowledge of electrical power systems and the ability to understand electrical single line diagrams.
    • The ability to work with various systems and processes and work with multiple stakeholders and organisations.
    • The ability to remain calm and apply logical and structured thinking and actions in high pressure situations.
    • Fluent English oral and writing and fully IT literate.
    • Must have the ability to gain UK security clearance for the role, UK Passport holder or in the UK for 5 years minimum.
