Location: Slough

Role Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated Water Engineer to oversee the maintenance, performance, and compliance of water-based infrastructure within our mission-critical data centre. This role is vital to ensuring the continuous operation of cooling systems, water treatment equipment, and domestic water services, supporting both uptime and sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities: Preventive & Reactive Maintenance:

  • Perform scheduled and reactive maintenance on water systems including chilled water loops, cooling towers, pumps, valves, and filtration units.
  • Carry out disinfection and de-scaling of cooling towers in line with industry best practices.
  • Respond promptly to system alarms, leaks, or failures to minimise operational disruption.

System Monitoring & Diagnostics:

  • Monitor system performance using BMS and SCADA platforms.
  • Conduct inspections and diagnostics to identify wear, corrosion, or inefficiencies.

Water Treatment & Quality Control:

  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate water treatment systems (chemical dosing, filtration, softening).
  • Ensure water quality meets operational standards and complies with environmental and health regulations.
  • Maintain domestic water systems, including hot and cold water services, ensuring hygiene and safety.

Compliance & Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, water hygiene logbooks, and compliance documentation.
  • Support audits and reporting on water usage, system performance, and maintenance KPIs.
  • Ensure all activities align with Legionella control and water hygiene regulations.

Contractor & Vendor Coordination:

  • Supervise third-party contractors, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Assist in procurement and inventory management of spare parts and consumables.

Health, Safety & Risk Management:

  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including confined space entry and chemical handling.
  • Support risk assessments and method statements for all maintenance activities.

Qualifications & Experience: Essential:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Water Engineering, or Building Services.
  • Experience in water systems maintenance, ideally in a data centre or critical environment.
  • Strong understanding of chilled water systems, cooling towers, and water treatment processes.
  • Experience in disinfection and de-scaling of cooling towers.
  • Familiarity with CMMS platforms and digital maintenance tools.
  • Knowledge of Legionella control, water hygiene, and domestic water system maintenance.
  • Experience maintaining compliance documentation and logbooks.

Desirable:

  • BOAS or similar boiler/cooling certification.
  • Water treatment qualifications (e.g., City & Guilds, WMSoc, or equivalent).
  • Experience with energy-efficient water system operations.
