Role summary: The Senior Director of Strategy & Operations (S&O) for the Digital & Information Office (DIO) serves as a critical thought partner and operating leader to the COO to the CDIO and DIO leadership team. The Senior Director oversees the translation of strategy into execution, drives operational excellence across the organization, and ensures the function operates with clarity, discipline, and measurable impact. This leader is accountable for governing execution against priorities, enabling end‑to‑end process maturity, and running complex cross‑functional programs that materially move business outcomes.
Main responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Executive Influence, Storytelling & Decision Enablement: Shape the narrative for the DCOO and DIO LT—strategy updates, operational readouts, and business reviews. Drive clarity and structure in executive discussions to accelerate decisions and alignment. Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, providing insight, challenge, and guidance grounded in data and strategic judgment.
- Stewarding & Operationalizing DIO’s Strategy: Lead the annual strategy cycle for DIO, ensuring enterprise direction is translated into clear operational goals, KPIs, success measures, and prioritized bodies of work. Cascade goals across organizational layers with clear line‑of‑sight; ensure consistency of interpretation in plans, commitments, and decision‑making. Serve as the connective tissue across DIO to ensure alignment, accountability, and timely execution against strategy.
- Engineering End‑to‑End Processes: Lead the design of foundational E2E DS&O workflows, including intake, prioritization, requirements, governance, and closed‑loop measurement. Define standards, templates, and cross‑team interfaces so teams can “push buttons,” not rebuild processes. Drive rollout, enablement, and change management to ensure new processes are adopted consistently across teams. Establish maturity measures, and a continuous refine‑and‑improve operating cycle. Ensure process design enables faster decision‑making, better prioritization, and scalable operating discipline.
- Driving Operationalization of Run‑the‑Business Programs: Convert ambiguous, high‑stakes initiatives into clear, executable programs with defined scope, ownership, sequencing, governance, and measurable outcomes. Run the operating cadence for strategic initiatives—surfacing risks early, resolving conflicts, driving cross‑team accountability, and maintaining momentum. Ensure initiatives “activate” inside DIO: expectations, decision paths, and accountabilities must be understood, adopted, and embedded.
Domain Expertise, Knowledge and Experience: Given the scale and complexity of Equinix’s digital infrastructure business, the Digital Strategy & Operations should possess a strong understanding of:
- Substantive experience in driving strategy, operations, consulting, product operations of transformation at global scale with e‑suite leaders in the technology function (CIO/CTO/Chief Digital Officer) in the technology or digital infrastructure space.
- Deep expertise in operating model and process engineering, goal/OKR systems, and closed‑loop performance management; fluency in enterprise systems (ERP/CRM/BI) and AI‑enabled workflows.
- Proven leadership of multi‑team programs and financial performance levers (budget/SG&A/OPM); credible partner to senior finance and product/engineering leaders.
Skills and Attributes:
- Strategic operator with systems thinking; turns direction into disciplined operating mechanisms.
- Analytical problem solving (uses data; does not build dashboards) and crisp decision framing.
- Governance and cadence builder; sets standards others adopt.
- Change leader who lands new ways of working at scale.
- Advanced Diplomacy: Expert-level ability to navigate complex internal politics and build consensus among strong‑willed C‑suite executives.
- Mental agility to move seamlessly between disruptive, long‑range strategic planning, and support for current quarter initiatives at headquarters or within the regional organizations.
- Complexity: Demonstrated success in managing large‑scale digital transformations in a matrixed environment across multiple geographies is essential.
Education: Ideally an MBA from a top‑tier institution or equivalent executive leadership experience.
