Responsibilities
- Thought Leadership Strategy
- Own and drive Equinix’s global thought leadership agenda, defining the ideas and perspectives that position Equinix as the category‑defining voice on AI infrastructure, multi‑cloud connectivity, and data sovereignty.
- Develop and steward the company’s core intellectual property – the frameworks, points of view, and research that underpin the company narrative.
- Lead a rolling thought leadership calendar across executive by lines, whitepapers, research reports, and industry commentary that maintains consistent, differentiated positioning.
- Identify emerging technology and market trends – distributed AI, agentic networks, sovereign infrastructure – and translate them into forward‑looking perspectives before the market catches up.
- Serve as the strategic content partner to the CEO, CRO, and CBO, ghostwriting and developing high‑impact bylines and keynote narratives for Tier 1 publications and industry events.
- Content Strategy and Execution
- Build and lead a world‑class content engine producing flagship long‑form pieces, executive narratives, and research‑driven assets that earn attention – not just fill a content calendar.
- Commission and oversee original market research in partnership with analyst firms (Gartner, Forrester, IDC) to generate proprietary data that powers press, analyst, and sales conversations.
- Develop an impactful customer storytelling program – producing documentary‑quality customer narratives that make Equinix’s platform transformation visible and credible.
- Establish content quality standards and editorial governance across the marketing organization, ensuring every external asset reflects the platform company voice Equinix is building.
- Maintain a deep understanding of the competitive landscape – hyperscalers, telcos, and emerging players – and develop content that sharpens Equinix’s differentiated position without ceding neutrality.
- Executive Communications and Narrative
- Partner directly with executive leadership to develop keynote speeches, major presentation narratives, and high‑stakes written communications.
- Build and maintain a suite of core messaging architectures – for different audiences, verticals, and use cases – that sales, marketing, and communications teams can draw from consistently.
- Translate complex technical capabilities into compelling business narratives that resonate with CIOs, CTOs, CFOs, and board‑level audiences.
- Prepare executive thought leaders for media appearances, analyst briefings, and major speaking engagements with sharp, defensible points of view.
- Content Operations and Team Leadership
- Build, lead, and develop a high‑performing thought leadership and content team, including writers, researchers, and content strategists located globally.
- Develop succession plans and individual growth strategies for team members; foster a culture of intellectual curiosity, editorial excellence, and commercial impact.
- Manage relationships with external editorial partners, research firms, journalists, and specialist content agencies.
- Cross‑functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product Marketing, Communications/PR, Analyst Relations, and Demand Generation to ensure thought leadership content flows across all channels and serves all commercial objectives.
- Collaborate with regional marketing leaders in AMER, EMEA, and APAC to adapt global narratives for local market relevance without fragmenting the core positioning.
- Work closely with Sales Enablement to ensure thought leadership assets are translated into tools that accelerate pipeline and support customer conversations.
- Act as an internal content authority – advising on messaging hierarchy, narrative consistency, and positioning decisions across the business.
Qualification
- Proven years of professional experience in thought leadership, content strategy, editorial leadership, or executive communications – ideally spanning both journalism/editorial and corporate environments.
- Demonstrated track record of building thought leadership programs that have meaningfully shifted market perception of a company or category.
- Exceptional writing ability – capable of producing board‑room quality narrative, compelling long‑form editorial, and crisp executive communications; recognized as a world‑class writer and editor.
- Deep familiarity with enterprise technology markets – cloud infrastructure, networking, AI, or adjacent categories – sufficient to develop credible, original points of view.
- Experience managing and developing high‑performing creative and editorial teams in a global, matrixed organization.
- Proven ability to work directly with C‑suite executives as a trusted content and messaging partner.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in journalism, communications, business, or technology preferred.
- Experience with major analyst relations programs and the ability to develop research that earns analyst credibility is a strong advantage.
Core Competencies
- Strategic narrative development – ability to architect the ideas that define categories, not just communicate product features.
- Editorial leadership – builds and holds a high bar for quality across an entire content organization.
- Executive influence – earns the trust of senior leaders and shapes how they present themselves to the market.
- Market intelligence – stays ahead of industry conversations and identifies where Equinix can lead them.
