About Equinix: Equinix is the world’s digital infrastructure company®, shortening the path to connectivity to enable the innovations that enrich our work, life and planet. A place where bold ideas are welcomed, human connection is valued, and everyone has the opportunity to shape their future.
Position Overview: We are excited to announce an opportunity for a highly skilled specialist to join our UK Operations as a Head Critical Facilities Engineer (CFE Level VI). This day‑time role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with complex, safety‑critical infrastructure and want to apply their experience in a data‑centre environment. As an ambassador for your site and the Campus, you will proactively engage with UK and Global stakeholders to continuously improve operational performance and customer experience. Previous data centre experience is beneficial but not essential; this role is well suited to professionals transitioning from other mission‑critical environments where uptime, risk management, and technical leadership are paramount.
Responsibilities:
- Act as ambassador for the site and campus, engaging with UK and Global stakeholders to improve operational performance and customer experience.
- Support the team and help shape future‑ready operational standards and ways of working.
- Coordinate complex technical work, including switchovers, maintenance windows, vendors, and customer communications.
- Mentor engineers across a wide experience range, from apprentices to senior technical specialists.
- Maintain calm and reassure stakeholders during high‑impact situations.
Who You Are: An experienced technical professional who has acted as a lead engineer during incidents, confidently coordinating teams and diagnosing complex failures in live operational environments. Brings strong experience from adjacent industries, such as utilities or power generation, manufacturing or industrial automation, transport or infrastructure, energy, oil & gas, or pharmaceuticals, facilities management within regulated or high‑availability environments. Has a solid understanding of critical infrastructure systems, such as power, cooling, control systems, life‑safety, or automation — and can quickly transfer that knowledge into a data‑centre context. Is comfortable planning and coordinating complex technical work, including switchovers, maintenance windows, vendors, and customer communications. Confident supporting and mentoring engineers across a wide experience range — from apprentices to senior technical specialists. Customer‑focused and credible in stakeholder discussions, including key customer meetings, MBRs, and incident escalations. Organised, adaptable, and solutions‑oriented, able to operate calmly under pressure and provide reassurance during high‑impact situations.
Important: You do not need to have started your career in data centres. If you have led technical operations in environments where reliability, safety, and continuity matter, we want to hear from you.
What This Role Offers Career Switchers: The opportunity to apply existing infrastructure expertise in one of the world’s most critical digital environments. Exposure to data‑centre‑specific systems, standards, and ways of working, supported by experienced peers and structured processes. A leadership role where judgement, technical depth, and calm decision‑making matter more than sector labels. Clear visibility, stakeholder interaction, and the chance to influence how operational excellence is delivered.
Why Should You Apply: Competitive Salary: Attractive compensation including a non‑contractual 15% bonus based on performance and a Reserved Stock Unit package. Generous Leave: 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase additional days (pro rata for shift positions). Comprehensive Insurance & Health Benefits: Life Assurance, Income Protection, Critical Illness Insurance, Private Healthcare, Eye Care Coverage and Gymflex Membership. Investment Opportunities: Employee Stock Purchase Plan and Company Pension Plan. Travel Benefits: Cycle to Work Scheme and Annual Season Ticket Loan. Career Growth: Excellent opportunities for growth and advancement within the company.
