We are looking for a dedicated legal professional specialising in employment law with a proven track record and substantial experience and training either in-house or at a high quality national or international law firm. We would expect a deep familiarity with general legal principles and procedures of UK law and you will have an interest in working in different jurisdictions, collaborating with colleagues across the legal team and engaging external Counsel where required and appropriate.
Alongside the above, we are looking for an individual who desires a broad ranging role that offers multi discipline work and who can manage competing workload demands, working autonomously within our strong, supportive and adaptable legal team.
As a Senior Legal Counsel in EQ’s Group Legal team, you will have a diverse and challenging role where you will gain lots of experience and have exposure across the Global EQ business and up to our executive team. You will take the lead on our Employment Tribunal case load and support our People Team with complex Employee Relation matters. You will also provide strategic advice on project work which can include restructuring, TUPE and corporate transactions. An understanding of the FCA/PRA rules would also be beneficial. Although predominantly UK focussed, you will be required to support our colleagues across the globe, unifying the approach across jurisdictions.
This role will report into our Assistant General Counsel (Employment). This is a remote role but travel between EQ locations and UK Employment Tribunals will be required subject to business demands.
The objectives and purpose of EQ Group Legal team are as follows:
- To provide trusted, independent legal advice and strategy relevant to EQ’s business.
- To uphold and champion EQ’s governance.
- To champion and embed ‘best-in-class’ commercial processes, systems and capabilities that are essential to winning new business, balancing clients’ requirements with EQ’s commercial objectives.
- To manage exposure to risk through taking a pragmatic and commercial approach to all litigation, employment-related or otherwise.
- To manage exposure to litigation though optimal drafting, forward-thinking strategy, and supporting the People Team with complex Employee Relations at a formative stage.
- To maintain a central record and document storage facility for all material legal matters affecting the Group.
