Summary Of Need
As a Licensed Practical Nurse, you will care for people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, such as Down syndrome and Cerebral palsy. You would be involved in the treatment of people with developmental disabilities under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN).
Job Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Administer medications and injections.
- Perform tube feedings.
- Hang IVs.
- Collect blood samples, if certified for venipuncture.
- Provide colostomy care.
- Observe patients and report changes in their condition.
- Take and record temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure.
- Obtain specimens for analysis and perform other medical procedures as ordered by a physician.
- Prepare and apply simple dressings.
- Bathe and feed; and care for people and their homes by performing such tasks as making beds, changing linen, lifting and moving people and caring for their personal effects.
Qualifications
- Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State.
- At least 1-year current experience working in long-term care or hospital setting.
- The ideal candidate will have experience working with the developmentally disabled patients.
- Highly motivated, independent thinker and self-starter.
- Enthusiastic team player.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.
- Able to manage multiple projects.
- Strong follow-up and communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills. (Word processing, office scheduling, familiar with Windows).
Hours: 8 to 12 hours shifts available. To be discussed more at interview. Mostly Evenings, and Nights available, Every other weekend, with some holidays.
Length of Assignment: Up to 2 years.
