Fully remote Finance Manager

Fully remote Finance Manager

Full-Time On-site
E

Newly created role working for a growing Education technology business, reporting directly to the Finance Director and working in a small team of 3 accountants.

This is a UK-based, remote role, with occasional in‑person time in London (likely once a month).

The Role

The Finance Manager will run day‑to‑day finance operations across the group, working closely with the Finance Director. Alongside hands‑on accounting and reporting, the role acts as a finance business partner to senior leadership, ensuring budget holders have accurate information, understand performance against budget, and can make informed decisions. The role also owns operational finance reporting for major contracts.

About the firm

A purpose‑led organisation operating in the education space, developing evidence‑based tools that improve children’s early learning outcomes. As the organisation expands in the UK, the US and internationally, it is building an in‑house finance function. This is a newly created full‑time role at the centre of that team.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations

  • Manage group accounting in Xero across all entities, including bank reconciliations, journals, accruals, prepayments and intercompany activity.
  • Deliver the monthly close and produce management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, cash flow) with commentary and variance analysis.
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable, including supplier payment runs, credit control and debtor tracking.
  • Oversee in‑house payroll, ensuring compliance with HMRC and pension requirements.
  • Prepare and submit UK VAT returns and coordinate with US advisors on tax and compliance obligations.
  • Prepare year‑end schedules and support external accountants and auditors in the UK and US.
  • Support administration of share option schemes, including HMRC/ERS filings and maintaining option records.
  • Support the Finance Director in maintaining annual budgets, reforecasts and multi‑year forecasts across group entities.
  • Support group cash flow forecasting and management, including intercompany balances and multi‑currency positions.
  • Help prepare finance packs and updates for the board and directors.
  • Support business planning and scenario modelling.
  • Help maintain and improve financial policies, controls and processes as the organisation scales.

Finance Business Partnering

  • Act as the day‑to‑day finance contact for senior leadership and budget holders.
  • Run regular budget vs actual reviews with each leader, explaining performance and drivers of variance.
  • Provide proactive financial information and analysis to support planning and prioritisation.
  • Maintain and update the financial model with actuals, reforecast changes and new assumptions.
  • Translate financial information into clear, practical insight for non‑finance colleagues.

Person Specification

  • Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent), or part‑qualified with substantial relevant experience.
  • Experience running day‑to‑day finance in a growing, multi‑entity organisation, ideally with international operations.
  • Strong technical knowledge of financial reporting, month‑end close and financial controls; Xero experience preferred.
  • Skilled in preparing and interpreting management accounts, budgets and forecasts.
  • Comfortable working with and updating financial models.
  • Confident partnering with senior, non‑finance stakeholders and explaining financial information clearly.
  • Highly organised, proactive and detail‑focused, able to work independently.
  • Exposure to US subsidiaries and multi‑currency accounting.
  • Employer pension contribution of 3%
  • 25 days' annual leave plus UK public holidays.
  • Flexible, remote‑friendly working culture.
  • Professional development support and clear progression as the finance team grows.
