We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented General Accounting Support Specialist to join our Accounting team. This role is crucial in providing essential general accounting support and ensuring the timely and accurate completion of month-end activities during a period of transition. The successful candidate will be a proactive individual with a strong foundation in accounting principles.
This is a Fixed Term Contract until the end of September.
What You’ll Do
General Accounting Tasks
- Perform regular account reconciliations (e.g., bank, balance sheet, intercompany) to ensure accuracy and resolve any discrepancies promptly.
- Process and accurately record daily cashbook entries.
- Maintain and update the general ledger.
- Assist with the preparation and posting of journal entries.
Month-End Activities
- Contribute to the timely and efficient completion of the monthly close process.
- Execute specific month-end tasks, which may include accrual and prepayment calculations and entries.
- Assist in the preparation of management reports and supporting schedules.
- Ensure all necessary month-end documentation is complete and filed correctly.
Ad-Hoc Requirements
- Respond to and support various ad-hoc requests and projects from other team members.
- Assist with internal or external audit preparation as needed.
- Identify and suggest potential process improvements within the general accounting function.
- Support the finance team with general administrative tasks as required.
What Experience You Need
- Proven experience in a general accounting or accounts assistant role, with direct involvement in month-end close procedures.
- Knowledge: Solid understanding of basic accounting principles (e.g., debits, credits, journal entries).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, basic formulas). Experience with an accounting software package (e.g. Oracle) is highly desirable.
- Attributes: Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage time effectively to meet strict deadlines.
- Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills.
