Our client, a well-established civil engineering and groundworks contractor, is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor to join their growing commercial team based in Poole. Working across a variety of civil engineering, groundworks and highways projects, this is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious commercial professional looking to develop their career within a successful and expanding business.

Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, you will play a key role in the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to final account, ensuring projects are delivered profitably whilst maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the commercial management of multiple civil engineering, groundworks and highways projects.
  • Preparation and submission of applications for payment.
  • Management and valuation of subcontractor accounts.
  • Measurement and valuation of works completed on site.
  • Preparation and agreement of variations and compensation events.
  • Cost reporting, forecasting and budget management.
  • Support the Commercial Manager with monthly CVRs and project reviews.
  • Procurement of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Assist with contract administration and commercial compliance.
  • Liaise with site teams to monitor project progress and identify commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Contribute to the successful negotiation and agreement of final accounts.

  • Infrastructure and highway improvement schemes.
  • Section 278 and Section 38 works.
  • Groundworks packages for residential and commercial developments.
  • Drainage, roads and external works.
  • Civil engineering projects for public and private sector clients.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Quantity Surveyor or Assistant Quantity Surveyor position.
  • Experience working within civil engineering, groundworks, highways or infrastructure projects.
  • Good commercial awareness and understanding of construction contracts.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and commercial reporting systems.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree, HNC or HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working under NEC forms of contract.
  • Knowledge of highways and infrastructure projects.
  • Membership of, or working towards membership of, a relevant professional body such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
  • Experience producing CVRs and detailed cost reports.
