The Role: Sales Engineer
As a Sales Engineer, you will play a pivotal role throughout the entire customer journey. You'll lead technical discovery sessions, design compelling solutions, demonstrate product value, support proof-of-concepts, contribute to RFP responses, and help customers solve real-world operational and security challenges. The successful Sales Engineer will work closely with sales leadership, engineering teams, product specialists, system integrators, service providers, and Government stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading technical discovery and presales engagements
- Acting as the primary technical authority during the sales cycle
- Delivering compelling demonstrations and value-driven presentations
- Supporting Proof of Concepts and customer evaluations
- Building trusted relationships with senior customer stakeholders

What We're Looking For in a Sales Engineer
We're seeking a highly capable Sales Engineer who combines deep technical expertise with exceptional communication and commercial awareness. The ideal Sales Engineer will bring:
- 5+ years within IT environments
- Experience in presales, network engineering, or technical support
- Proven success supporting UK Government or Public Sector customers
- Active SC Clearance
- The ability to engage confidently with senior decision-makers and C-Suite stakeholders
- Strong networking expertise across Cisco technologies, TCP/IP, SNMP, NetFlow, VoIP, LAN/WAN infrastructure, and security architecture
- Knowledge of Linux, Windows, cloud technologies, SDN/NFV, and virtualised environments
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE
- A consultative approach focused on business value and customer outcomes
The Ideal Sales Engineer Will Also Have
Experience with packet analysis, performance monitoring, cybersecurity concepts, network assurance, and technologies such as Riverbed, ExtraHop, Arbor, A10, Wireshark, or Zeek will be highly advantageous. Exposure to security frameworks including NIST and ISO 27001 is also welcomed.
Location & Travel
This Sales Engineer role is officially home-based within the UK, although regular customer engagement is a key part of the position. The successful Sales Engineer should be comfortable with:
- Frequent customer meetings across the UK
- Approximately 60–70% travel
- Annual conferences and quarterly Sales Engineer conventions
Candidates based in Central or Southern England are particularly encouraged to apply, although exceptional candidates from Northern England will also be considered.
