Equans is looking for a Shift Maintenance Assistant to join our team at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH) in Smethwick.
This is a full-time role working 40.25 hours per week on a shift rota of 2 days on (7am‑7pm) then 2 nights on (7pm‑7am) then 4 days off.
The offer includes a salary of up to £26,400 per year, dependent on skills and experience, plus a shift allowance and benefits package.
Responsibilities
- Undertake a proactive role in carrying out first–response to reactive jobs and complete tasks such as ventilation grille cleans, light cleans, unblocking of toilets, meter readings, etc., in accordance with relevant standards, operational procedures, legislation and guidance.
- Respond to BMS alerts and phone calls during night shifts, acting as the initial point of contact.
Assess the nature of the issue, allocate the task to the appropriate team member, complete the necessary documentation, and hand over all records to the Helpdesk team at the start of their shift to support effective service continuity.
- Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks for services across the site, covering various aspects of the building services in accordance with the PPM programme and personal competence and training.

Requirements
- Previously worked within a maintenance environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of a range of mechanical and electrical systems, including but not limited to ventilation, pumps, compressors, boilers, medical gases, heating systems, domestic hot and cold‑water systems.
- Previous experience within a healthcare maintenance environment (desirable).
This role includes a DBS Standard check; therefore the ability to pass is essential. For this role you must have evidence of the right to work in the UK.
