We have a great opportunity for a NRSWA Excavation & Reinstatement Operative to support our long term street lighting maintenance contract covering Kent. This position is based from our Sittingbourne office.
Role overview
To carry out excavation and reinstatement works on public highways in accordance with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA), ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards. To abide by NERS requirements when excavating and locating underground service utilities.
Key activities
- Working in connection with the installation and decommissioning of lighting equipment, including signs, bollards, street lights and earth matts for EV chargers.
- Understanding STATS plans for excavation works and being able to read the electrical LV/HV drawings, locating underground utilities for LV jointing activities.
- The use of a CAT & Genny, to avoid and dig around underground utilities.
- Excavation work for DNO New Service joint bays, transfer bays & disconnection bays for column, bollard and sign installations.
- COPS2 Training required in undertaking the excavation of joint bays and locating and digging around existing utilities.
- Use and operation of tools, equipment and vehicles (including HGV) associated with the role.
- Providing support to skilled and specialist operatives.
- Carryout reinstatement works of all surface types i.e. modular, tarmac or slab to HAUC specification with COPS2 handling the reinstatement around DNO service joints. Hot Lay Tarmac may be required on certain sites for final reinstatement.
- Carrying out driving, delivery and general yard duties.
- Working in a safe manner and in accordance with Company Health, Safety, Environment and Quality policies and procedures.
- Complying with operational working practices and associated method statements & risk assessments for the tasks being carried out.
- Taking full ownership for personal Health & Safety responsibilities.
- Ensuring Full PPE is worn at all times.
- Working 45 hours per week from 07:30 to 17:00.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Valid NRSWA Operative card (Units (Apply online only) and 009 as a minimum).
- COP2 training to undertake the location and excavation around existing utilities with the use of hand digging only.
- Experience in highway excavation and reinstatement.
- CSCS/ECS card (desirable).
- Manual handling and abrasive wheels training (desirable).
- Experience operating plant and tools safely.
- Full UK driving license (essential; HGV license desirable).
