Equans Digital (Smart Infrastructure team) has a very exciting opportunity for an experienced Environmental and Sustainability Lead to deliver and oversee environmental management for various large infrastructure projects to varied clients in differing sectors, driving social, economic and environmental benefits to stakeholders and more importantly people operating and living within them.

Key activities:
- Accountable and responsible for leading the delivery programme off the back of the low-level solution design and scope in time and on budget as a minimum.
- Responsible for seeing all environmental and sustainability activities within the Smart Infrastructure team, which is a rapidly growing area within Equans Digital in the UK.
- Encompasses strategic planning, project execution, risk management, subcontractor management, budget control, and client communication, contributing significantly to the company's sustainability goals and reputation for environmental excellence.
- Acts as a key point of contact for environmental matters across multiple projects and plays a crucial role in shaping the company's sustainable future.
- Responsible for client and end user engagement during pre-construction, construction and handover.
Strategic Planning & Implementation:
- Develop and implement environmental and sustainability strategies for projects and the company as a whole, aligning with broader corporate goals and ESG targets.
Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA):
- Lead and manage all aspects of EIAs, including scoping, baseline surveys, impact prediction, mitigation measures, and report preparation, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
Environmental Management Systems (EMS):
- Develop, implement, and maintain EMSs in accordance with ISO 14001 or similar standards, ensuring consistent and effective environmental performance.
Permitting & Compliance:
- Secure necessary environmental permits and licenses, ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant UK legislation, and manage potential non-compliance incidents.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulatory bodies, local communities, and other stakeholders, proactively communicating environmental aspects of projects.
Subcontractor Management:
- Select, manage, and monitor environmental subcontractors, ensuring high-quality work, compliance with health and safety regulations, and adherence to project timelines and budgets.
Risk Management:
- Identify, assess, and mitigate environmental risks across all projects, developing and implementing appropriate risk management strategies.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
- Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
- A postgraduate qualification in a relevant specialist area (e.g., ecology, contaminated land) would be highly advantageous.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental consultancy, with a proven track record of successfully managing complex, multidisciplinary environmental projects within the UK context.
- Significant experience in all aspects of EIA, including stakeholder engagement and regulatory interactions.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing EMSs and achieving ISO 14001 certification.
- Experience in managing environmental budgets and resources effectively.
- Detailed knowledge of UK environmental legislation and regulations, including recent amendments.
- Experience in preparing environmental reports and presentations for a range of audiences.
- Experience in using appropriate environmental software and modelling tools.
