EQUANS are recruiting for a Health, Safety & Environment Apprentice to join their team at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday on a 24 month fixed-term contract. On offer is a competitive salary, and benefits package.

The apprenticeship role will support the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) function within the facilities management in a dynamic hospital environment. You’ll gain hands-on experience while working alongside experts to promote a safe and compliant workplace. You’ll also complete the Level 3 Safety, Health and Environment Technician apprenticeship qualification via online learning.

What will you deliver?

  • Assist in preparing, reviewing, and updating risk assessments and method statements
  • Conduct site safety inspections under supervision
  • Support monitoring of COSHH controls and hazardous materials
  • Help with the reporting and investigation of accidents, near misses, and incidents
  • Contribute to monthly HSE performance reports
  • Participate in the review of contractor documentation for construction and lifecycle projects
  • Assist in creating and distributing team safety briefs
  • Assist with waste management documentation
  • Promote ‘Behavioural Based Safety’ and a positive safety culture
  • Liaise with frontline teams across services (cleaning, catering, portering, hard FM, etc.) to ensure safe working practices are embedded
  • Learn to communicate HSE matters effectively across departments

  • Willingness to work in a trainee role to attain a range of skills
