Equans is looking for an experienced Project Manager‑Variations to join our team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham on a permanent basis. This is a full‑time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, company vehicle or allowance, bonus and benefits package.
Responsibilities
- Take full accountability for the delivery of variations projects across the PFI site, managing the P&L and H&S from concept to completion.
- Conduct detailed discussions with Trust, end‑users and plan projects to ensure successful execution.
- Translate project scope, specifications, design drawings and tender documents into compliant deliverables, adhering to CDM and Health & Safety regulations.
- Manage snagging, defects and close‑out within specified timescales.
- Supervise contractors, liaise with clients and other company departments, ensuring high workmanship and safety standards.
- Monitor contractor performance, consult closely with Technical Services and Estates Maintenance Managers to measure and improve outcomes.
- Support the wider Project, Life Cycle and operational teams to keep all work on time and to budget.
- Provide margin optimisation, risk identification and mitigation, and maintain project plans from inception to completion.
- Oversee administration and financial performance, and communicate with Lead PM on budget vs. target.
- Lead teams in coordinating operatives and suppliers, aiming for efficiency and cost minimisation.
- Implement Equans policies, legal requirements and best practice, conducting regular safety inspections.
Qualifications
- Proven background in FM, maintenance delivery, and the PFI environment.
- Strong project management experience in Healthcare, delivering projects in a live environment.
- Commercial awareness to manage and flow supplier contracts downstream.
- Knowledge of local authority legislation, planning applications, fire and building regulations approvals.
- High verbal, written and numeric skills, computer literacy, proficiency in spreadsheet packages and project management systems.
- Able to work with all stakeholders, be self‑motivated, initiate, liaise and delegate effectively.
- Sufficient knowledge of building and engineering services design, British Standards, Health and Safety at Work Act, CDM Regulations and other statutory requirements.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project) and knowledge of Equans finance software (Coupa).
- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in a building or engineering discipline.
- Experience operating in public or private sector, managing small works within a large complex estate.
- Ability to pass a DBS Basic check (essential).
