Equans is looking for a Mobile Electrician to join our team on the North Lanarkshire Schools contract based from Bellshill, ML4 3NJ. This is a full time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package.

You will be responsible for delivering planned and reactive electrical maintenance across school premises, including classrooms, offices, plant rooms, and external areas. Your work will ensure a safe, efficient, and fully compliant electrical environment that supports a secure learning atmosphere.

You will collaborate closely with the Facilities Manager, school staff, and other service providers to schedule work around school operations and respond promptly to emergencies. As this role operates within an educational setting, adherence to safeguarding, child protection, and PVG requirements is essential, together with maintaining professional conduct on school sites.

Working hours: 1pm - 9pm

What will you deliver?

  • Perform electrical installations, modifications, and repairs within school buildings and facilities
  • Maintain lighting, small power, distribution boards, containment systems, and related equipment
  • Support emergency lighting, access control, and other critical life-safety systems maintenance and testing
  • Diagnose electrical faults and carry out repairs promptly to minimise disruption
  • Conduct reactive tasks and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) according to schedules and contract requirements
  • Carry out and record electrical testing, inspections, and issue certificates and reports as required
  • Plan works in coordination with Facilities Manager, Technical Operations Manager, and helpdesk to minimise impact on lessons and school events
  • Provide clear, timely updates on job progress, risks, and timelines
  • Liaise with subcontractors and multi-trade teams for proper job sequencing and quality delivery
  • Respond quickly to emergencies such as power failures and equipment faults within agreed response times
  • Participate in out-of-hours call-out rota – 1 in 9

Who are we looking for?

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Installation
  • City & Guilds 18th Edition (BS 7671) qualification or willingness to gain within an agreed timeframe
  • Experience as an electrician within facilities management, building services, or similar sectors
  • Experience in PFI contracts, education sector, or multi-site estates is an advantage
  • Knowledge of school/public-sector electrical systems, including life-safety systems
  • Valid CSCS/ECS or equivalent site safety card as required
  • Sound understanding of health & safety legislation and permit-to-work systems
  • Proficient user of IT systems; experience with CAFM or mobile work management tools
  • Participation in on-call rotas, shifts, or weekend work as necessary
  • Full UK driving licence
