EQUANS is looking for a Technical Development Lead to join our team in City of London on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working Monday to Friday. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.
The Technical Development (Decarbonisation & Energy Solutions) Lead plays a crucial role in shaping the front-end development of low-carbon projects by leading techno-economic modelling and decarbonisation planning. This position focuses on defining project scope, identifying optimal energy efficiency and renewable energy measures, and securing grant funding. By combining expertise in building physics, energy systems, policy, planning, and financial modelling, the role ensures the technical and commercial viability of decarbonisation strategies. Supporting clients in their net-zero ambitions, this position aligns project development with regulatory frameworks and funding opportunities.
What will you deliver?
- Decarbonisation Strategy and Consultancy
- Leads the development of decarbonisation project planning for public and private sector clients, including local authorities, social housing associations, healthcare, and commercial organisations.
- Conduct technical and financial feasibility assessments for low-carbon technologies, including heat pumps, district energy systems, HVAC, BMS, and solar PV.
- Guide internal teams and external clients through funding applications (e.g., PSDS, Warmer Homes, GHNF, HNES), ensuring compliance and maximising success rates.
- Design and Engineering Leadership
- Provide technical leadership across RIBA Stages 0-4 and 7, ensuring robust engineering and commercial integration.
- Oversee energy modelling to optimise building and energy system performance.
- Develop in-house bespoke modelling tools for system analysis, energy forecasting, and demand-side management.
- Ensure compliance with CIBSE Heat Pump Code of Practice, PAS 2035, and other energy efficiency standards.
- Funding and Commercial Viability
- Develop business cases and financial models to secure funding for decarbonisation projects.
- Conduct techno-economic assessments to evaluate financial and operational viability.
- Present technical and financial concepts to stakeholders at all levels, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
- Project Management and Delivery
- Lead and support cross-functional collaboration across engineering, commercial, business development, and operational teams.
- Ensure grant condition compliance, meeting funding requirements for projects.
- Implement post-project reviews, tracking performance and identifying optimisation opportunities.
- Digital and Data-Driven Optimisation Support
- Support BEMS optimisation, demand-side response strategies, and building energy performance improvements.
- Oversee the development of digital twin models and real-time analytics for benchmarking energy system performance.
- Enhance proprietary and third-party modelling tools to improve system performance and predict energy demand.

Who are we looking for?
Experience:
- Expertise in modelling and simulation software, such as Energy Pro, PVsol, Termis, NEMO, Netsim, Bluebeam, and Excel modelling.
- Proven track record in securing funding and leading decarbonisation initiatives.
- Extensive experience in building energy systems, heat networks, and low-carbon infrastructure.
- Experience working with public and private sector decarbonisation projects, including PSDS and Refit framework.
Qualifications:
- Higher degree (MSc, MEng, or equivalent) in Energy, Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in energy consultancy, decarbonisation strategy, and low-carbon solutions.
