EQUANS is looking for a Multi-Skilled Technician (Mechanical) to work on our Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital contract. This role would be a permanent full-time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

General Overview: Equans are recruiting for a Multi-Skilled Technician - Mechanical, based at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospitals site, but may also infrequently be required to cover Burnley General Hospital. The Multi-Skilled Technician will be responsible for the technical performance and maintenance of standards and provide guidance to others on site, showing technical expertise in mechanical systems. Ensure appropriate and compliant solutions and efficient customer service delivery. The Technician will have technical knowledge in more than one skill or technology area and will form part of the out of hours on call rota. Flexible working hours required.

  • Train to become an Authorised Person/ Responsible Person in relevant disciplines.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. The post holder will provide an effective and efficient maintenance repair service to a high quality on the full range of building fabric, electrical and mechanical engineering and electro medical services, plant and equipment to the above stated properties within their trade discipline and other disciplines within their capability, and will involve maintenance of complex systems and the use of fine instrumentation and equipment.
  2. Work in accordance with the requirements of statute, technical guidance and codes of practice.
  3. Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections and commissioning tests in accordance with Procedures and schedules.
  4. Maintain the following systems and plant:
    • Steam and condensate systems and pressure systems
    • Cold and DHW systems, distribution pipework and all associated plant and equipment and dismantle and rebuild when required.
    • Preventative maintenance for the control of legionella in water systems.
    • Hydraulic, pneumatic and vacuum systems
    • Piped medical gas, medical air and carry out
    • Commercial/ Industrial Laundry Equipment
    • Heating, ventilation (air handling units) and air conditioning systems
  5. Where appropriate be knowledgeable in relation to all site Engineering and Building services.
  6. Refer to and understand all Engineering/Technical drawings and specifications. Interpret technical detailed manuals, carryout both routine and non-routine fault diagnosis and repair specialist trust engineering equipment, assist in commissioning, problem solving in new technical services and communicate technical knowledge to others.
  7. Whilst providing an on-call service assist/liaise with the Emergency Services should an incident take place at any Health premises, independently deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to other members of the team, assist/liaise with contractors, utility suppliers, professional parties and other service providers outside of normal office hours, supporting duties for the Trust Fire Team and Major Incident Team, advise the Senior Equans Management team on maintenance issues as required outside of normal office hours.
  8. Carry out statutory testing in compliance with insurance requirements. Complete all reports and test certificates as necessary.
  9. Respond to and liaise with other members of Equans and when applicable Trust staff who request assistance.
  10. Be able to drive appropriate Trust vehicles for transporting personnel or equipment.
  11. Be prepared to work in hazardous areas, confined spaces and on contaminated equipment taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment in accordance with policy and safe working procedures.
  12. Identify and prioritise own work load and actively participate in the operation of the performance management information system, including the completion of all paper work required by the scheme in a timely manner.
  13. Ensure the security of all plant, equipment and buildings under the jurisdiction of the Equans FM Service.
  14. Liaise with the TSM's/ TSS's regarding plant or equipment failure and to request in writing the supply of goods and/or services with reference to manufacturers manuals etc. Maintain stock levels for spares and equipment.
  15. Be fully conversant with all Equans and all relevant policies and procedures including:- Fire Safety, Infection Control, Heath & Safety at Work Act, COSHH Regulations and Manual Handling guidance and safe systems of work.
  16. Use and be competent in the use of all relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works.
  17. Undertake inspections for pre-installations and investigates services which may be required for new equipment and carry out minor installation improvement works.
  18. Notify immediately the TSM/ TSS or equivalent of any problems within the hospitals that may be of danger to staff and members of the public.
  19. The post holder will be managed rather than supervised and therefore should be capable of making decisions.
  20. The post holder must notify the TSM/ TSS of any members of staff, patient or visitor who may contravene hospital regulations i.e. fire, parking, smoking, electrical equipment.
  21. Supervise, communicate with and develop Maintenance Assistants, and assess/evaluate the quality of work.
  22. The post holder will participate in the provision of an on call service for plumbing and mechanical engineering services.

TRAINING

  1. The post holder shall participate in continual professional development and undertake training where necessary to learn new techniques across a range of core trade areas.
  2. Participate in all training required in line with the training matrix/programme.
  3. The post holder will be provided with adequate training in correct lifting techniques by a recognised lifting instructor and be instructed in heavy lifting techniques as required.
  4. Also to be instructed/trained to erect scaffolding, use of ladders and use of high access equipment e.g. cherry picker.
  5. Be trained to at least competent person level in multi disciplines, including formal accredited training, assessment and appointment to undertake the duties.

Impact: The individual will play a vital role to Equans, working alongside other colleagues in the team to ensure that the operations are legally and contractually compliant and represent excellence in service delivery.

Complexity: We are looking for a driven individual to add expertise and dimension to the maintenance team at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital. They will demonstrate flexibility and efficiency in responding to changing business requirements and will establish good working relationships with other team members. Qualifications or Required Experience:

  • Must have completed a recognised and accredited apprenticeship
  • ONC/C&G or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a commercial/ industrial environment providing building services maintenance.
  • Must have experience and understanding of large complex systems
  • Experience of working on or with two or more of AHU's, Vent, FCU's, LTHW, L8, Pumps, Pipework, Valves, and other mechanical systems.
  • Sound awareness of risk assessment and working safely with equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of Health & Safety.
  • Ability to measure, works to plans (method statements), read technical diagrams.
  • PPM & Reactive Work

Desirable:

  • Use of a Building Management System (BMS)
  • Pressure Systems/ Steam raising boiler plant
  • HVAC
  • Competent Person/ Authorised Person experience
  • Healthcare experience would be an advantage. But further training and familiarisation will be offered for the right candidate.
