Equans is looking for a Project Manager-Variations to join our team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary, company vehicle or allowance, bonus and benefits package.

As part of the Project Management team you will take full accountability for the delivery of Variations projects across the PFI site. You will be expected to manage the P&L and H&S for your projects from concept to completion with the support from the Lead PM and Head of Projects. Your role will be fundamental to the efficient delivery of projects to both the SPV and Trust, building relationships as part of your role, and supporting the wider Operational team to deliver the contract. Meeting the Client’s needs and ensuring works are delivered within budget and on time is paramount and the post holder needs to reflect this in day-to-day operations. All projects must ensure a favourable financial return.

What the role will involve:

  • Detailed discussions with Trust, end-users and careful planning to ensure that projects are planned successfully.
  • Translate project scope, specifications, design drawings and tender documents in full compliance with statutory requirements including CDM and Health & Safety.
  • Ensure snagging and defects are managed and closed-out within the specified timescale.
  • Supervise contractors, liaise with clients and other company departments during projects where necessary.
  • Monitor working procedures, workmanship, and performance of contractors with particular regard to health and safety.
  • Consult with Technical Services and Estates Maintenance Managers to assist with monitoring and performance measurement.

We are looking for a driven individual to add expertise and dimension to the team at the Hospital. The individual will be able to demonstrate flexibility and efficiency in responding to a changing workload and business imperatives while able to establish excellent working relationships within the existing team and clients alike. Experience within a contractual, KPI-driven environment and exposure to a hospital PFI environment is a prerequisite.

What will you deliver:

  • Full Profit & Loss responsibility for your delivered projects and life cycle works.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with relevant stakeholders (Trust / SPV) at management level to ensure ongoing pipeline growth.
  • Support the wider Project, Life cycle and operational teams to ensure all work is carried out on time and to budget.
  • Ensure on-time delivery and margin optimisation for all projects.
  • Support all phases of the project, from initial request to close out, to meet all contractual requirements.
  • Support the Lead PM with processes and governance across the site to make the Queen Elizabeth contract a Centre of Excellence.
  • Continually refine the project delivery model to deploy the right resources and approach for each project.
  • Identify and manage project risks with effective mitigation; maintain the project plan from inception to completion.
  • Monitor and communicate project financial performance to the Lead PM.
  • Oversee and support the team to coordinate operatives and suppliers in a planned and controlled manner, aiming to minimise costs.
  • Implement and comply with Equans policies and procedures and legal requirements, including regular safety inspections.
  • Discuss with Trust staff and plan to minimise disruption to building users.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications and tender documents as necessary and ensure compliance with statutory requirements including Health and Safety.
  • Review designs and specifications provided by consultants for larger capital projects.
  • Monitor working procedures and performance of suppliers with regard to health and safety; liaise with Technical Services and Estates Maintenance Managers.
  • Undertake work in other buildings/property/location as required.

Who are we looking for:

  • Proven background in FM, maintenance delivery, and the PFI environment.
  • Strong Project Manager with a track record in Healthcare projects in a live environment.
  • Commercial awareness to manage and flow supplier contracts.
  • Understanding of Local Authority legislation, Planning Applications, Fire and Building Regulations Approvals.
  • Strong verbal, written and numeric skills; computer literate with knowledge of spreadsheets and project management systems.
  • Ability to work with stakeholders and operational staff; self-motivated and able to work on own initiative.
  • Knowledge of building and engineering services design and British Standards.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act, CDM Regulations and other statutory requirements.
  • Understanding of technical estates and building issues in construction, maintenance and FM services.
  • Financially aware and able to use Equans finance software (Coupa).
  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in building or engineering.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office; Project experience preferred.
  • Experience in the public and/or private sector with managing small works within a large and complex estate.

This role includes a DBS Basic check; ability to pass is essential.
