Equans is looking for a Mobile Electrical Engineer to join our team in Birmingham. This is a permanent, full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week. The working hours are as follows: Week 1 Monday-Friday 6am-2pm, Week 2 Monday-Friday 10am-6pm. There is also an on-call rota. Competitive salary, company vehicle and benefits package offered.
The role operates across the Birmingham Schools Contracts, covering multiple school sites and a range of community properties that deliver healthcare services. Equans works in close partnership with the Schools to ensure all locations are well‑maintained, compliant, and able to support high‑quality service delivery.
What will you deliver?
- Diagnose, fault‑find and repair complex electrical systems in line with legislation, standards and procedures.
- Deliver Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) across all electrical building services to agreed specifications and timeframes.
- Carry out minor electrical installations, upgrades and adaptation works.
- Respond quickly to reactive maintenance tasks to minimise disruption and contract penalties.
- This will include working on emergency lighting, distribution boards and other commercial electrical equipment.
- Resolve electrical faults and plant defects promptly to maintain safe, reliable operation.
- Identify required spare parts and provide accurate parts lists and timescales for remedial works.
- Maintain accurate PPM, reactive and breakdown records, including real‑time CAFM updates with full job details and follow‑on actions.
- Complete all required documentation and reports to the expected standard.
- Participate in the on‑call rota.

Who are we looking for?
- 18th Edition
- AM2
- Post‑apprenticeship experience within an electrical maintenance or building services environment
- Completed a recognised electrical apprenticeship and qualified to City & Guilds or equivalent (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation/Maintenance)
- Previously worked within a building services or electrical maintenance environment
- Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical systems and equipment, including but not limited to LV distribution, switchgear, control panels, emergency lighting, fire alarm systems, BMS interfaces, motors, and electrical safety systems
- Valid driving licence
- Experience working within an education, healthcare, or large‑estate facilities environment. (Desirable)
- Previous Competent Person or Authorised Person experience for electrical systems (e.g., LV/HV), or experience working under a Permit‑to‑Work system. (Desirable)
