Our expertise spans the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings and critical infrastructure worldwide. We have an exciting new opportunity for a Principal Consultant Engineer to join our Carbon Shift consulting division within the Equans Digital & Energy Services business. The EQUANS Carbon Shift (ECS) consulting division provides an initial engagement that helps shape our new and existing client’s operational plans to deliver their net zero objectives. What differentiates us from many of our competitors in the consulting space is our ability to transition these plans into engineering management programmes through our wider project delivery and operations teams. Our team is therefore composed of commercially minded engineers who are able to create and present attractive solutions that have the potential to be delivered by Equans as a turnkey net zero partner. We work with a wide range of clients including manufacturing, industry, corporate, commercial, retail, heritage and transport bodies, as well as a significant footprint in the public sector.

Role Overview

The Principal Consultant Engineer will have the primary focus of delivering professional consultative services in low carbon and energy solutions that enable net zero transitions for our clients in the industrial and manufacturing sector. Due to the nature of the business development pipeline, this role may also be required to support other sectors (i.e. Public Sector), where there is strong demand for opportunities. The ability to manage time, cross‑functional working and resources effectively will be key.

Key Activities

  • Lead consulting projects and provide for commercial transition into EQUANS project delivery divisions.
  • Support effective team and project management, including project completion timelines, project costs and profitability, and ensuring client needs are met.
  • Effectively and dynamically plan business activities to adjust and respond to changing client needs while maintaining business performance and growth.
  • Proactively build client relationships to maintain a strong repeatable pipeline.
  • Work closely with the Head of Consulting to expand the current team and grow the industrial business.
  • Undertake energy audit activities, development, engineering and conceptual design of energy projects.
  • Develop complex and dynamic numerical models of engineering and commercial aspects of energy project feasibility.
  • Ensure compliance with EQUANS quality assurance processes including peer and management review.
  • Communicate with all stakeholders to brief on submissions as they progress.
  • Lead in delivering profitability and revenue delivery targets for each engagement through proactive time management and efficiency in delivery.
  • Articulate the key risks and benefits of the opportunity to key stakeholders.
  • Work with commercial and finance teams to develop profitable and compelling outcomes.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree (Bachelors or Masters) in a relevant engineering discipline, accredited by Engineering Council.
  • Technical expertise in implementing energy and carbon solutions, and a firm understanding of building, industrial and manufacturing engineering services.
  • Proved competence in energy management and carbon reduction.
  • Liaise with and present cases to customers at management/decision‑maker level.
  • Experience presenting to organisations and individuals, both orally and in writing, complex technical issues and potential solutions clearly and concisely.
