EQUANS is hiring a Maintenance Engineer to support our Barnsley Schools contract. This permanent full‑time role requires 37.5 hours per week (Mon‑Fri 9 am‑5 pm). Salary range: £30,000‑£32,000, with a benefits package.
We are looking for a driven individual to add expertise and dimension to the building maintenance teams at the Barnsley Schools contract. The Maintenance Engineer will deliver planned, reactive, and preventative maintenance across a portfolio of 13 primary schools within a PFI contract. The role ensures buildings remain safe, operational and compliant, supporting a high‑quality learning environment for staff and students.
Duties include:
- Mechanical, electrical, and fabric maintenance.
- Responding to breakdowns and contributing to statutory compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks in accordance with the PFI contract requirements.
- Carry out reactive maintenance, repairs, testing, and inspection of building mechanical, plumbing, and fabric services as required.
- Understand operational procedures and safe working practices of major plant and systems.
- Ensure all PPM activities are recorded accurately in CAFM systems.
- Respond to breakdowns, faults, and call‑outs in a timely manner.
- Diagnose and repair faults across electrical, mechanical, and building fabric systems.
- Escalate issues requiring specialist intervention where necessary.
- Ensure risk assessments are completed and maintained for all tasks.
- Maintain a safe and tidy working area.
- Safely operate all types of access equipment, hand and power tools.
- Ensure all works meet PFI contractual compliance and performance standards.
- Build positive working relationships with school staff, contract managers, and external partners.
- Communicate clearly about works being undertaken, timescales, and potential impacts.
- Complete work orders, service sheets, and compliance documents accurately and on time.
- Update asset histories and maintenance records in the CAFM system.
- Report any health and safety concerns, building defects, or contract risks.
- Support small project works or lifecycle replacement activities.
- Participate in an on‑call rota.
- Ensure tools, vehicles, and equipment are maintained and used safely.
- Assist with the management and control of contractors.
Qualifications or Required Experience:
- A full driving licence is essential for this role.
- Recognised Apprenticeship in relevant craft, discipline to City and Guilds level.
Desirable Experience:
- First Aid at Work.
- Previous experience within a maintenance environment.
- Previous experience working in a PFI environment.
- Legionella Awareness.
- IOSH Working Safely or similar.
- Enhanced DBS.
