Full-time, permanent Closing date:
Sunday 1st November 2026 About us We are one of Hull's leading independent suppliers of fixings, fasteners, architectural ironmongery, tools and industrial consumables. Established in 1945, we support customers across construction, engineering, manufacturing and modular building from our Hull trade counter, warehouse and national ecommerce operation. The opportunity We are looking for an organised, practical person to help keep purchasing and supply running reliably, while supporting the Head of Procurement in developing the wider function. Day-to-day purchasing, stock availability and supplier coordination are central to this role. Alongside these responsibilities, you will support sourcing, commercial analysis, product and category development, and projects to improve how we buy and manage supply across the business. We are a small business. Responsibilities overlap, and we need someone who takes ownership, works closely with colleagues and is willing to provide support and cover where needed. Procurement includes both the products we buy to sell and the goods and services we buy to run the business. What you'll be doing Manage day-to-day purchasing and replenishment, maintaining accurate purchase orders, supplier acknowledgements, costs and delivery dates. Follow up outstanding orders and resolve shortages, delivery discrepancies and invoice queries, working closely with Sales, Warehouse and Finance. Support supplier sourcing and negotiations by obtaining and comparing quotations, benchmarking prices and identifying opportunities to improve cost, quality and availability. Analyse sales, stock, margin and supplier spend to support buying decisions, range reviews and commercial improvements. Support inventory and supplier performance reviews, helping address slow-moving stock, availability issues and recurring supply problems. Maintain accurate product and supplier information, including specifications, pricing and technical documentation, and support new products and range development for Fix&Fast. Contribute to supplier onboarding, purchasing controls, reporting and improvements to procurement processes and digital tools. Take responsibility for agreed suppliers, product groups and projects as your knowledge develops, providing support and cover across the wider team. About you You may already work in purchasing, buying or supply chain, or have relevant experience in product administration, ecommerce, sales coordination, order management or merchandising. Industry experience would be useful, but it is not essential. Strong attention to detail and good organisational skills. Confidence communicating with suppliers and colleagues and following actions through. Confidence using Excel to analyse sales, stock and purchasing data, compare quotations and maintain accurate records. An interest in products, pricing, stock and supplier performance. A proactive approach, commercial awareness and willingness to take ownership. Development and progression Working directly with the Head of Procurement, you will gain experience across buying, supplier management, stock and category development, with opportunities to take ownership of suppliers, product groups and projects as your skills grow. This could support progression into Buyer, Category Manager or wider procurement and supply chain roles, depending on your strengths and business opportunities. Support towards a relevant CIPS qualification may be available following successful completion of probation. What we offer £28,000-£32,000 salary, dependent on experience. 23 days' annual leave plus
