We are looking for an experienced Driver and Dispatch Manager to take responsibility for our day-to-day delivery operation, lead our team of drivers and help manage our fleet of eight company vans. This is a hands-on role combining driving, dispatch, team supervision and fleet coordination. You will learn our delivery routes, regularly complete deliveries yourself and lead by example, while also ensuring drivers are dispatched effectively, vehicles are properly maintained and our delivery operation runs smoothly. This is not a purely desk-based management position, so we're looking for someone who is happy to remain actively involved in the day-to-day operation.

The Role

Working closely with our Logistics Manager, you will help ensure our bakery products reach customers safely, efficiently and on time. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating daily delivery schedules and dispatching drivers
  • Regularly completing delivery routes yourself
  • Supervising and providing day-to-day support to the driver team
  • Planning routes and allocating drivers and vehicles
  • Responding quickly to delivery, staffing or transport issues
  • Monitoring driver performance using vehicle tracking information
  • Helping onboard and train new drivers
  • Maintaining accurate delivery, vehicle and operational records
  • Liaising with customers and colleagues regarding deliveries and service updates
  • Identifying opportunities to improve routes, processes and operational efficiency

Fleet Management

You will also help manage our fleet of eight electric and diesel vans, including:

  • Coordinating servicing, MOTs, repairs and maintenance
  • Carrying out regular vehicle checks
  • Ensuring vehicles remain safe, roadworthy and compliant
  • Monitoring mileage, fuel usage and vehicle performance
  • Maintaining insurance, tax and maintenance documentation
  • Managing vehicle allocations
  • Ensuring appropriate health & safety and transport procedures are followed

About You

We're looking for someone with previous experience in a delivery, transport, logistics or similar operational environment who is ready to take responsibility for both people and day-to-day operations. Ideally, you will have:

  • Previous experience within transport, delivery, distribution or logistics
  • Experience supervising, coordinating or leading drivers or an operational team
  • Experience coordinating delivery routes, schedules or dispatch operations
  • Experience looking after vehicles or a small fleet
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Confidence making decisions and dealing with operational issues
  • Good communication and people-management skills
  • A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to lead by example
  • The ability to work effectively during permanent night and early-morning hours

Previous experience as a Transport Supervisor, Dispatch Supervisor, Fleet Supervisor, Lead Driver, Senior Delivery Driver or in a similar operational role could be particularly relevant.

Hours and Pay

The role works four 10-hour shifts per week, Wednesday to Saturday, approximately midnight to 10am. The standard rate is £16.00 per hour, with an additional £3.00 per hour unsocial hours supplement for hours worked between 11pm and 6am.

What We Offer

  • £16.00 per hour
  • Additional £3.00 per hour for hours worked between 11pm and 6am
  • Four-day working week
  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Free on-site parking
  • A varied role combining driving, logistics, fleet coordination and team leadership
  • The opportunity to take ownership of an important part of our day-to-day operation

If you have experience in transport or delivery operations, enjoy leading people and still like being hands-on, we'd be pleased to hear from you.
