SME Commercial Insurance Account Handler / Broker

Location: Essex or London

Salary: Competitive

Division: Retail Commercial

Employment: Full-time

The Role

We are looking for an ambitious SME Commercial Insurance Account Handler / Broker to join our growing direct retail commercial team.

We are looking for someone who already has a good grounding in commercial insurance broking and is capable of taking ownership of clients and policies rather than simply carrying out administrative tasks.

The successful candidate will work across our existing commercial client base, handling renewals, new business enquiries, mid-term adjustments and day-to-day client requirements.

This would particularly suit someone with around 18 months to 3 years' commercial broking experience who is looking for a role where they can take on more responsibility and progress their career.

As the individual develops, there will also be opportunities to gain exposure to our wider London Market and wholesale broking operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of SME commercial clients.
  • Handle renewals from start to finish.
  • Proactively contact clients in advance of renewal and obtain updated risk information.
  • Approach insurers and obtain renewal and new-business terms.
  • Review and compare insurer quotations.
  • Negotiate terms with insurers where appropriate.
  • Present terms clearly and professionally to clients.
  • Handle incoming new-business enquiries.
  • Process mid-term adjustments, cancellations and policy changes.
  • Liaise directly with clients, insurers and other market contacts.
  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell additional covers where appropriate.
  • Ensure all client and policy information is accurately maintained on Acturis.
  • Maintain appropriate diary and follow-up procedures.
  • Ensure client files meet compliance and FCA requirements.
  • Work closely with the wider broking and accounts teams.
  • Provide a high level of service and build strong long-term client relationships.

Types of Business

Experience across some or all of the following would be particularly useful:

  • Commercial Combined
  • Property Owners / Landlords
  • Shops and Offices
  • Public and Employers' Liability
  • Trades and Contractors
  • SME Package Policies
  • Commercial Property
  • Fleet / Commercial Motor
  • Professional Indemnity

Experience in every class is not essential. We are more interested in finding someone with a strong overall commercial broking foundation who is willing to learn.

What We're Looking For

Ideally, you will have:

  • Approximately 18 months to 3+ years' experience within a commercial insurance broker.
  • Experience dealing directly with commercial clients.
  • Experience handling commercial renewals.
  • A good understanding of SME commercial insurance products.
  • Confidence approaching insurers and obtaining terms.
  • The ability to manage your own workload and follow-ups.
  • Strong telephone and communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • A proactive rather than purely administrative approach.
  • The confidence to take ownership of work and see it through to completion.

Acturis

Acturis experience is highly desirable.

We are particularly interested in candidates who are already comfortable using Acturis for:

  • Client and policy records
  • Renewals
  • MTAs
  • New business
  • Diary management
  • Documentation

Qualifications

Cert CII would be advantageous but is not essential.

Candidates currently working towards professional insurance qualifications will also be considered and encouraged to continue their development.

The Person

We're not looking for somebody who simply wants to process policies all day.

We want someone who is:

  • Ambitious
  • Commercially minded
  • Confident
  • Organised
  • Good with clients
  • Comfortable speaking to insurers
  • Keen to learn
  • Interested in progressing within the insurance market
