Ready for More Responsibility, More Influence and a Genuine Opportunity to Progress? Are you an experienced Civil Engineer who feels ready for the next step but hasn't quite found the right opportunity? Perhaps you're already Chartered, working towards chartership, or simply looking for a role where your technical expertise, leadership skills and ambition will be recognised. If you're ready to make a real impact rather than just deliver another project, this could be exactly what you're looking for.
You could join a well-established and growing engineering consultancy as a Principal Civil Engineer, taking on a key role within its infrastructure team. Offering a salary of up to Β£75,000, hybrid working and genuine opportunities for career progression, this is a chance to join a business where you'll have the freedom to influence projects, develop people and help shape the future of the team.
YOUR NEW ROLE
This is more than just a technical design role. You'll be taking ownership of civil infrastructure projects, providing technical guidance and working closely with clients to deliver practical, high-quality engineering solutions. You'll also have the opportunity to mentor developing engineers, contribute to business growth and play an important part in the continued success of the infrastructure division.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading civil infrastructure projects from initial feasibility and concept design through to successful delivery.
- Providing technical expertise across highways, drainage, SuDS and flood risk schemes.
- Overseeing the design and delivery of adoptable roads and sewer infrastructure.
- Reviewing technical drawings, drainage strategies and Flood Risk Assessments.
- Managing project programmes, coordinating design teams and maintaining high technical standards.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients and external stakeholders.
- Supporting and mentoring engineers, helping them develop their technical capabilities and progress towards chartership.
- Contributing to business development opportunities and the continued growth of the infrastructure team.
- Working alongside senior leadership to influence technical decisions and project delivery.
ABOUT YOU
We're looking for a technically strong, commercially aware Civil Engineer who enjoys taking ownership, solving problems and delivering successful projects. Ideally, you'll have:
- Significant experience in civil infrastructure design within an engineering consultancy.
- Strong technical knowledge of highways, drainage, SuDS, flood risk and adoptable infrastructure.
- Experience delivering projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- A good understanding of relevant design standards, approval processes and industry regulations.
- Experience using Civil 3D and InfoDrainage.
- The confidence to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and external stakeholders.
- A proactive approach, strong problem-solving skills and the ambition to develop your career.
Chartership is desirable, but not essential. If you're working towards Chartered Engineer status (CEng) and have the experience, technical ability and ambition to take on a senior role, we'd love to hear from you. We're far more interested in finding the right person with the right attitude and capabilities than focusing solely on professional titles.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
- Salary up to Β£75,000 basic, depending on experience.
- Hybrid working offering flexibility and a better work-life balance.
- Comprehensive benefits package.
- Genuine opportunities for progression towards Associate and Director level.
- The opportunity to take ownership of varied and technically interesting infrastructure projects.
- A senior position where your ideas, experience and input will be valued.
- Support for continued professional development and progression towards chartership.
- The opportunity to mentor others and help shape a growing infrastructure team.
- A friendly, collaborative working environment with an experienced team of professionals.
Could This Be Your Next Move?
If you've reached a point in your career where you're looking for more responsibility, greater autonomy and the opportunity to progress, this could be well worth exploring. You don't need to tick every box, and you certainly don't need to be actively looking. Sometimes the right opportunity is simply worth a conversation.
