A long-established and steadily growing civil engineering and groundworks contractor is looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Greater Manchester. The business delivers groundworks, foundations, drainage, infrastructure and external works across a mix of residential and private developer schemes. They’re investing in modern surveying and reporting tools, and there’s a clear progression path for someone who wants to grow rather than just maintain.

YOUR NEW ROLE

  • Getting involved early – pre-construction input, project meetings, commercial planning
  • Managing external applications for payment and client invoicing
  • Reconciling payments and chasing outstanding monies
  • Pricing and managing variations, design changes and additional works
  • Monitoring cost vs budget and flagging risks/opportunities early
  • Producing quarterly internal valuations and Cost to Complete forecasts
  • Tracking spend across labour, plant, materials and subcontractors
  • Working closely with Contracts Managers and Site Managers to ensure commercial accuracy
  • Taking ownership of final accounts from start to finish
  • Reporting into senior management with reliable commercial data
  • Supporting improvements in internal costing and reporting processes

ABOUT YOU

  • Strong QS background, ideally already operating at senior level
  • Experience in civils, groundworks, infrastructure or residential development
  • Minimum HNC in Construction or Civil Engineering
  • Comfortable owning applications, valuations, variations and final accounts end to end
  • Sharp commercial instincts and excellent numerical accuracy
  • Confident communicator – comfortable with clients and site teams
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Organised, deadline-driven, calm under pressure
  • Experience with construction costing software (any platform) is a bonus
