This position blends hands-on technical expertise with client engagement and team leadership, within a forward-thinking MEP consultancy with a strong sustainability focus.
As part of the senior leadership cohort, the role carries responsibility for guiding project outcomes, embedding low and net zero carbon design principles, and supporting the development of engineers across the business.
Role Responsibilities and Requirements

- Acting as the main point of contact for clients on allocated projects, managing both technical input and commercial discussions to build trusted, long-term relationships.
- Overseeing project programmes, workloads and resourcing across multiple live projects, contributing to wider planning and pipeline decisions at senior level.
- Providing technical direction on healthcare-led projects, applying relevant guidance such as HTMs and HBNs (or equivalent), and helping to strengthen sector expertise within the team.
- Working closely with mechanical, public health and sustainability specialists to deliver coordinated, integrated MEP solutions using BIM-led design processes.
- Preparing and reviewing detailed electrical designs, calculations, reports and specifications using tools including IES / IES-VE, AutoCAD, MagiCAD and Revit, with a clear emphasis on energy efficiency and low or zero carbon outcomes.
- Supporting bid submissions, fee proposals and client presentations, contributing to business growth across key sectors.
- Playing an active role in mentoring and developing junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a collaborative and supportive team culture.
Key Skills and Qualities Needed
- A degree in Building Services, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (BEng or MEng), with Chartered Engineer status (or close to achieving) and membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. MIET, MCIBSE).
- Significant UK-based consultancy experience (usually 7β10+ years), including leadership of electrical design on large, multidisciplinary projects with construction values up to Β£100m+.
- Strong experience within the healthcare sector and a practical understanding of HTMs and HBNs, or closely related experience in complex technical environments such as laboratories or cleanrooms.
- High-level technical capability in electrical building services design, with up-to-date knowledge of legislation, best practice and emerging low-carbon technologies.
- Proven ability to manage project scope, fees, risk and financial performance across multiple concurrent projects.
- Clear, confident communication skills, with the ability to represent the business professionally with clients, consultants and contractors.
- A collaborative, proactive mindset and the flexibility to adapt to evolving project and market conditions.
Further Information
The practice offers a supportive and inclusive working environment, with a strong emphasis on structured CPD, tailored development pathways and progression into broader leadership roles for high performers.
