An established, multidisciplinary built-environment consultancy is seeking a Principal Sustainability Consultant to play a leading role in delivering high-impact sustainability outcomes across complex projects. This role offers the opportunity to shape sustainability strategies from early concept through to delivery, influence project teams and clients at a senior level, and contribute to the continued evolution of best practice across the industry. The position sits within a nationally connected sustainability team, with strong regional autonomy and visibility.
Role responsibilities and requirements
- Act as sustainability lead on medium to large-scale projects across all design stages, including planning and technical delivery.
- Lead defined workstreams on complex projects, supporting overall project strategy and delivery.
- Develop and manage project programmes, resources and delivery plans.
- Facilitate and lead client and design team workshops, clearly translating technical insight into actionable outcomes.
- Review, coordinate and quality-assure work produced by others.
- Deliver and oversee detailed sustainability analysis, including:
- Energy performance and compliance modelling
- Overheating and thermal comfort assessments
- Operational energy and performance-based assessments
- Whole life carbon and net-zero strategies
- Environmental and wellbeing certifications
Key skills and qualities needed
Essential experience
- Strong background in sustainability and building performance consultancy.
- Proven experience leading projects and managing resources.
- Advanced energy modelling and performance assessment capability using IES VE.
- Experience delivering environmental and wellbeing certifications.
- Whole life carbon assessment experience.
- Track record of supporting planning submissions and engaging with local authorities.
- Experience mentoring and developing junior team members.
Desirable experience
- Operational energy and performance-based assessment methodologies.
- Design-for-performance or post-occupancy evaluation approaches.
