Overview of role

The Associate Director role is for a leading purpose led Environmental Design Consultancy. In this position you will take an entrepreneurial role in developing and growing the energy planning and design work for the team. This is an opportunity to work with some of the most forward-thinking clients and on projects that are pioneering approaches to the energy transition. As part of the leadership team, you will help to set business strategy, oversee the delivery of impactful projects, and manage and nurture the development of the energy team.

Role responsibilities and requirements

  • Developing energy and sustainability strategies for new developments and regeneration projects
  • Delivering decarbonisation strategies for existing assets and estates
  • Feasibility studies for neighbourhood and district energy
  • Concept design of heat networks and microgrids
  • Project delivery to private and public organisations across a range of scales and regions
  • Lead and develop business cases, delivery models, and planning applications
  • Building and developing new and existing relationships with clients
  • Developing proposals for new work
  • Supporting strategic business development
  • R&D and Thought Leadership
  • Management and mentoring of team members

Key skills and qualities needed

  • BEng/BSc in Energy, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer with a relevant body
  • Experience in leading the design and delivery of energy and carbon strategies across RIBA stages
  • Technical strength and depth within energy systems
  • Energy modelling, whole life carbon modelling and feasibility design
  • Ability to lead projects and oversee the work of others
  • Proactive approach to developing and sharing knowledge, and nurturing the development of others
  • Strong client relationship management
  • Business development and leading on proposals
  • Excellent overall communications skills
