Role Overview

At Cedar Lodge, the kitchen assistant works within the home, alongside the Head Chef, preparing nutritionally balanced and satisfying meals for all residents. Responsibilities include maintaining a clean and tidy kitchen, loading/unloading the dishwasher, following instructions from the Head Chef/Cook, and supporting other departments to meet highest service standards. The role ensures an exceptional mealtime experience for every person, respecting cultural, religious and medical dietary needs such as IDDSI diet.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist with hot and cold food preparation and serve meals within the home.
  • Recognise and respond to residents’ dietary needs and menu requests.
  • Represent the Cedar Lodge brand with a professional and welcoming presence for residents, visitors and team members.
  • Monitor and maintain effective stock control and rotation.
  • Perform any additional duties assigned by the Home Manager to support overall functioning of the home.

Skills, Qualifications and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in a similar environment is desirable.
  • NVQ Level 1 in Food Safety & Hygiene (or equivalent) or willingness to complete this qualification.
  • Ability to work on a 7‑day rota including weekends.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also working independently.
