Role overview
As a Junior Finance Assistant, you’ll work with the Business Finance Manager and the Financial Controllers to maintain financial records and help keep track of the firm’s finances. You’ll play a major role in supporting the internal finance function to ensure that EQ is enabled to meet its financial commitments, that it complies with the financial rules governing the firm and that financial records are accurately maintained. Your ‘go to’ person is the Finance Manager, who will coach, support, and challenge you not only to succeed in your role but to realise your potential and career aspirations at EQ.
Key Responsibilities
- Data entry and processing – You’ll input financial data into systems like CCH and Xero, supporting with routine updates and monthly reporting tasks.
- Supporting direct debit processes – You’ll assist with setting up new mandates, logging collection activity, and ensuring accurate records in the system.
- Updating financial records – You’ll help maintain cash books and assist with posting fee receipts, reconciling bank transactions, and preparing daily summaries.
- Purchase ledger assistance – You’ll support with matching and clearing invoices, helping to post client disbursements, and preparing payment runs.
- Invoice preparation – You’ll help draft and send invoices, and support the monitoring and follow-up of outstanding payments.
- Credit card tracking – You’ll assist in coding receipts, recording transactions in Xero, and helping to issue statements to cardholders.
- Client account support – You’ll assist with tracking client and inter-account transfers, maintaining accurate records and flagging any discrepancies.
- General finance admin – You’ll support the team with general administrative duties, scanning and filing documents, organising data, and maintaining digital records.
- Learning and development – You’ll have the opportunity to build your knowledge and get involved in small finance tasks and projects as your confidence grows.
- Process improvement support – You’ll be encouraged to share ideas that could help improve the accuracy or efficiency of day-to-day finance tasks.

- You’ll have an interest in finance, administration or data handling, and may have studied a relevant subject (e.g. business, admin, finance) at school or college.
- You’ll be comfortable using Microsoft Excel and willing to learn various accounting software applications.
- You’ll have strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work.
- You’ll be reliable, organised, and able to manage your time effectively with the support of your team.
- You’ll be a team player who communicates well and contributes positively to the working environment.
