  • Role Purpose

We are looking for an experienced and practically minded Aluminium Technical & Product Development Engineer to provide technical support across our aluminium window and door product range.

This is a varied, hands-on role combining technical support, product development, customer and sales support, workshop activities and training .

The successful candidate will become a key point of contact for aluminium-related technical matters and will work closely with customers, Sales, Technical, Operations and Product Development.

The role would suit somebody with good practical knowledge of aluminium window and door systems who is equally comfortable discussing a technical queries and product related issues with a customer, reviewing a design at their desk, or working in the technical workshop to manufacture and evaluate samples and new product developments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Support
  • Provide day-to-day technical support for the company’s aluminium window and door systems.
  • Respond to technical enquiries from customers, the Sales team and other areas of the business.
  • Review customer requirements, drawings and proposed configurations and provide appropriate technical guidance.
  • Assist with troubleshooting fabrication, installation and product-performance issues.
  • Support customers with fabrication and technical queries relating to our aluminium system.
  • Provide practical solutions while ensuring products are manufactured and installed in accordance with company guidance and relevant requirements.
  • Product Development
  • Assist with the development of new and existing aluminium window and door products.
  • Review new product concepts, designs, profiles, hardware and system developments.
  • Work alongside the Research and Development team to evaluate product improvements and new opportunities.
  • Produce and assemble prototype products and samples within the technical workshop.
  • Carry out practical assessments and identify potential fabrication, assembly or installation issues during the development process.
  • Support product testing and product accreditation.
  • Provide feedback on product design from both a fabrication and customer perspective.
  • Technical Workshop & Fabrication
  • Manufacture window and door samples, prototypes and demonstration products.
  • Assist with the development and proving of fabrication methods.
  • Assess tooling, machining, hardware and assembly requirements.
  • Support investigations into product or fabrication issues.
  • Produce samples for customers, exhibitions, training and internal evaluation where required.
  • Technical Documentation
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of fabrication manuals, technical manuals and product documentation.
  • Ensure technical information remains accurate and reflects current products and manufacturing methods.
  • Support the production of drawings, technical data and customer guidance.
  • Provide technical sales support to the internal and external Sales teams.
  • Assist Sales with technically complex customer enquiries and product applications.
  • Liaise directly with customers to understand their requirements and provide suitable technical solutions.
  • Attend customer meetings where additional technical support is required.
  • Help identify opportunities where existing or new aluminium products could meet customer requirements.
  • Act as an important link between customers, Sales, Technical and Product Development.
  • Training
  • Deliver technical and product training to customers and colleagues.
  • Provide practical fabrication training where required.
  • Support the introduction of new products through internal and external training.
  • Help develop training materials, demonstrations and product samples.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have

  • Experience within the aluminium window, door or architectural systems industry.
  • Good practical knowledge of aluminium fabrication and assembly.
  • An understanding of aluminium profiles, hardware, glazing and associated components.
  • The ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.
  • Experience dealing directly with customers and providing technical support.
  • Good communication skills and the confidence to communicate with customers, fabricators, installers and internal teams.
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of technical enquiries.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage several different tasks and priorities.
  • Experience producing or working with technical/fabrication documentation.
  • A willingness to work across both office and workshop environments.
  • Experience of product development, product testing, CAD/software systems and relevant window and door industry standards would be advantageous.

This is a hybrid position and is not purely office-based or workshop-based.

The successful candidate will spend their time across technical support, customer liaison, product development, workshop activities, documentation, training and technical sales support.

The role will therefore provide considerable variety and would suit someone who enjoys being involved throughout the complete product journey – from initial concept and development, through fabrication and testing, to customer support and successful use of the finished product.
