Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join our established and experienced research delivery team. We are looking for a patient focused, motivated, passionate nurse with an interest in clinical research and good project management skills.

The successful candidate will gain experience and develop research delivery skills.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly across clinical studies including clinical trials in dementia and mental health.

The successful candidate will support senior research nurses and other clinicians to deliver clinical research. The role will involve working flexibly within the team, yet have the ability and confidence to work independently when needed.

A full induction and training program will be provided, as well as ongoing mentorship support. Previous research nursing experience is desirable but not required. We would encourage nurses with experience from a range of clinical backgrounds to apply.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn about research governance, ethics, study management and study delivery with an introduction to research finance.

All relevant and mandatory research training will be provided.

The successful candidate will be part of a team that manages a portfolio of challenging and interesting clinical studies including clinical trials in dementia and mental health.

The successful candidate will experience tasks such as patient recruitment, study assessments, blood collection and processing, data entry and data management alongside administrative tasks as needed for the clinical trials activities.

The post is focused on providing the successful candidate with experience in commercial and non-commercial clinical trials by carrying out research activities, aimed at improving the care and treatment of the patients.

The successful candidate will develop a close working relationship with Trust clinical service departments and attend research delivery team meetings.

The successful candidate will work towards being proficient in managing their own research workload effectively and completing trial documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

Please note the post holder will be required to conduct study visits at clinics and participant’s homes across the Trust, therefore a full driving license and possession of a suitable vehicle to travel around the area are required for this position.

Person specification

Application

  • Registered Nurse (Adult or Mental Health) with current NMC registration
  • Relevant clinical experience as a registered nurse within the NHS
  • Full UK driving licence and possession of a vehicle in order to conduct study visits around the Trust area
  • Valid, up-to-date Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certificate
  • Prior experience working on research studies or clinical trials

Interview

  • Ability to deliver safe, compassionate care to patients participating in clinical research studies
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and commitment to developing research nursing skills
  • Ability to monitor patients for adverse events and elevate concerns appropriately
  • Good communication skills, including ability to explain complex research information to patients, carers and colleagues
  • Ability to support clinical teams to understand research protocols and processes under supervision
  • Self-motivated and able to work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Competence in extended clinical procedures (e.g. cannulation, IV administration)
  • Experience working within mental health, community, or primary care settings
  • Knowledge of commercial clinical trials and sponsor requirements
  • Understanding of study design and research methodology
