Epsom & Ewell Borough Council is looking to appoint a motivated and reliable Assistant Chef to support the delivery of high-quality catering services within the Community & Wellbeing Centre. This is a practical, hands-on role responsible for assisting with the preparation, cooking and service of food to a high standard, ensuring excellent customer service and maintaining strict food hygiene and health & safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation, cooking and presentation of meals
  • Support the day-to-day operation of the Community Wellbeing Kitchen
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, food safety and compliance
  • Monitor and complete food hygiene records in line with legislation
  • Support stock control, minimise waste and assist with ordering
  • Provide clear allergen and dietary information to customers
  • Assist the Catering Hub Manager and deputise where required
  • Support and guide staff and volunteers where necessary

You will:

  • Have experience working within a catering or hospitality environment
  • Hold a Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 3 desirable, or willingness to obtain)
  • Have knowledge of food safety and health & safety practices
  • Be able to work efficiently under pressure and to deadlines
  • Demonstrate good communication and customer service skills
  • Be a positive and flexible team player
