Working under the direction of the Sports Course Leader, the Senior Sports Course Coach will assist in delivering engaging, high-quality coaching sessions as part of the College’s sports course programme. The role involves teaching skills, techniques, and tactics within the chosen sport, supporting participants throughout the day, and ensuring their safety and enjoyment at all times. The Senior Sports Course Coach will contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment, provide feedback and encouragement to participants, and report observations and evaluations to the Sports Course Leader. This is a hands-on role requiring enthusiasm, adaptability, and a genuine passion for sport and working with young people.
Main Duties
- Deliver structured, age-appropriate coaching sessions under the guidance of the Sports Course Leader.
- Adapt coaching methods to suit different abilities and learning styles, ensuring every participant is supported and challenged appropriately.
- Lead small groups in drills, skill development, and match-play activities.
- Supervise children at all times to ensure a safe, active, and enjoyable environment.
- Promote teamwork, fair play, and respect among participants.
- Ensure full compliance with all Health & Safety and Safeguarding procedures.
- Support with registration, equipment setup, and daily logistics as required.
- Provide feedback to the Sports Course Leader on individual and group progress, as well as session outcomes.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience coaching at a high level in the relevant sport.
- A recognised coaching qualification is desirable.
- Experience playing the sport to a strong competitive level (e.g., county or representative standard).
- Previous experience working with or supervising children in a coaching or teaching capacity.
- Understanding of Health & Safety and Safeguarding within a sports environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and engage young people.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Positive, enthusiastic, and professional approach to all aspects of the role.

Terms and Conditions
- Dates/Hours: The days and times of working will be confirmed to the post holder by the Senior Commercial Operations Coordinator or delegate once numbers of attending are finalised.
- Salary: £178.00 per full day to include course preparation and end of course duties. Payment as and when worked on the course.
- Holiday: In addition to rate above, holiday entitlement is calculated on a monthly basis based on the hours you have worked and have submitted for payment. The calculation is 12.07% of the hourly rate for each hour worked and the amount of holiday pay paid to you for that month will be itemised on the payslip as “holiday pay”.
- Pension: The College operates the Epsom College Automatic Enrolment Scheme. The Scheme is administered by the Pensions Trust. Eligibility is based on statutory criteria. If eligible, the Employee will be required to contribute a minimum of 5% of Basic Salary and the College will contribute 4%. Employees can opt out of the scheme.

In compliance with statutory safer recruitment regulations, the post will be offered subject to receipt of satisfactory written references, pre-placement medical assessment, proof of appropriate qualifications, a check of online search engines and websites of publicly available information that does not identify the candidate as potentially unsuitable to work within a school setting, a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service and overseas police check if appropriate, as well as confirmation that the successful candidate is able to work in the UK.
Prior to interview, an online search of internet search engines, websites and other publicly available and publicly accessible platforms to ascertain applicant’s suitability to work within a school environment will be undertaken on applicants that have been shortlisted. Please note whilst the Enhanced DBS check will be paid by the College if an overseas police check is required it will be at the cost of the successful applicant.
