An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as the Principal Pharmacist, Paediatrics and Women's Health. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist to lead and develop the clinical pharmacy service to the Women and Children's Division. The post will suit individuals who would thrive in working autonomously and collaboratively as a strong team player.

As the Principal Pharmacist for Paediatrics and Women's Health, you will provide leadership and clinical expertise, supporting the work across the Women and Children's Division. You will be a core member of the MDT, ensuring safe and effective medicines management and medicines optimisation. You will oversee the implementation of service improvements, review of medicines expenditure, as well as clinical governance and medicines safety within the Women and Children's Division. You will work directly with patients and carers to understand their needs and support adherence to medication regimens. You will need good interpersonal and communication skills as well as the ability to organise and prioritise your work. We will provide appropriate training to aid your personal and professional development.

Main duties of the job:

  • Lead and develop the clinical pharmacy services to the Women and Children’s Division including antenatal, neonatal, postnatal, maternity, paediatrics, obstetrics & gynaecology, ensuring services are of the highest standards of quality and professional practice, evidence based and meet the needs of the user.
  • Act as the lead pharmacist for Women and Children’s services Trust-wide and specialist on medication issues related to this area.
  • Coordinate and supervise pharmacy staff in the provision of care to Women and Children’s Services.
  • Participate in late duty, Bank Holiday and weekend rotas and be part of a seven day service.
  • Occasional cross-site work may be required to meet service needs including covering for leave and working weekends/bank holidays.

Person specification:

  • Qualifications: Masters in Pharmacy (MPharm), Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent, Registered with GPHC, Independent Prescriber, Member of the Faculty of RCP, Member of RCP.
  • Experience: Substantial post-registration hospital experience at band 7 level, demonstrated evidence of excellent clinical knowledge and skills, significant and relevant experience in areas linked to women’s health, paediatric/neonatal pharmacy services and PN, understanding of current national standards, guidelines and service developments linked to areas covered to Paediatrics / Neonatology health, previous management experience with responsibility for pharmacy staff, providing a clinical pharmacy service to a variety of specialties, clinical governance and risk management, medicines usage review/evaluation/audit experience, knowledge of CMM (formerly JAC) pharmacy computer system, electronic prescribing and dispensing systems.
  • Skills: Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, excellent interpersonal skills, including influencing skills, proven organisational skills, self and others, ability to prioritise work effectively and work under pressure, team player with leadership skills, ability to analyse and interpret complex clinical information, ability to motivate self and others, up to date on changes to pharmacy and hospital standards, ability to implement and manage change, in-depth understanding of the principles of Quality Improvement.
