We are looking to recruit a new Locum Consultant into our Acute Medicine Service to join a dynamic and enthusiastic team of acute physicians working across the Epsom and St Helier sites. We run a consultant led service on the AMU with strong specialty in-reach support and have a newly renovated, dedicated Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) that runs in collaboration with Emergency Medicine and provides same day medical assessment care to lower acuity patients, strengthening and improving admission avoidance.

Successful applicants will join a team of AMU consultants developing and providing exciting new services within acute medicine within a trust recently identified as one of the trusts in London to receive £500 million for a new acute hospital facility in Sutton (expected 2025). This is an exciting time to join Epsom and St Helier Hospital and play a part in shaping and developing acute medicine services for the future.

For applicants for which achievement of CESR is relevant there is an active supportive structure within the Trust to achieve this and it will be actively encouraged. There are regular grand rounds and educational opportunities. The trust is open to innovative approaches and ideas to continued healthcare and education and we would welcome such thoughts from the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

The Acute Medicine clinical commitment will be cross site between the two Acute Medicine services of the Trust, likely to be 1 week at each site on an alternate week basis. The post is a basic 10 programmed sessions (8 DCC- of which 1.6 DCC is patient admin-and 2 SPA). We aim to provide the SPA over 1 day to enable hybrid working. The job plan incorporates being on the GIM on call rota, a 1 in 14 commitment.

Responsibilities

  • To show dynamism, enthusiasm and flexibility in participating in the reshaping of acute medical services at the Trust and to work closely with the Clinical Lead and Clinical Director of Medicine.
  • To help provide a first-class clinical service to all Trust patients.
  • To provide high quality leadership and support to medical staff, allied health care professionals, and Trust management and support staff in both the Acute Medicine Service and associated medical specialty areas.
  • To support and sustain teaching and research where possible in relevant clinical areas.
  • To work within the framework of applicable Trust policies, procedures, and clinical governance framework.
  • To work within contractual requirements, and in support of applicable Trust clinical development frameworks, business plans, and development strategies.
  • To consistently treat all patients and colleagues with respect and professionalism and to adhere to the principles of the Trust regarding equality and diversity.
