General Manager Women's Health

To support the Divisional Director of Operations, W&C on both an operational and strategic basis, to deliver the Service improvement, integration, projects, strategic work and operational delivery across women's health services within the Division of Women & Children’s Services (W&C).

The post holder is expected to function as part of the senior management team for W&C Division and will participate on the Trust's Senior Management on-call rota, as well as deputising for the DDO W&C.

This is two year fixed term role to support both the day to day functioning of the WH services and support the operational impact of any Trust Board decision to decant services from the WH building at St Helier whilst building improvements are undertaken.

St George's, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George's Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).

After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.

• Working closely with the Divisional Quad (DDO, Divisional Medical Director, Directors of Nursing & Midwifery)), to meet key performance indicators and maintain financial control.
• Working closely with clinicians in order to achieve optimal decisions for overall patient care.
• Building processes around patients and working with patients and carers as partners in the delivery of excellent healthcare.
• In the interests of patient care, supporting the principle of treatment as close to the patient's home as possible.
• Ensuring that the decisions taken are fully informed and properly balanced, taking account of collective as well as individual need, and the requirement to live within available resources.
• Genuinely promoting and supporting the delivery of national and local healthcare standards as one of the ways of raising healthcare standards for all.
• Wherever possible, seeking to set higher local targets for delivery of healthcare than are prescribed nationally.
• Always comparing to high performing organisations to ensure continuous learning from others.
• Supporting, involving and developing staff, whilst requiring delivery and performance to high standards.
• Contributing to the partnerships within the community, with health, social care, academic partners and major business, amongst others.

Core Responsibilities

• Ensuring quality of services to patients, visitors and staff, including management of clinical governance, healthcare standards and risk.
• Maximising delivery of operational and performance management standards (including cancer, RTT and diagnostic standards) and to develop and deliver recovery plans where performance standards are not being met.
• Optimising resource management
• Planning, marketing and developing services
• Managing capacity and operational planning
• Minimising boundaries between services, both within and outside the division
• Acting as a Deputy to the DDO W&C.
• To work closely with information staff to ensure that any new systems developed meet with local reporting requirements and that their use is embedded in working practices.
• Working with the DDO to ensure safe transfer of women's health services should the board agree that a decant is needed from the St Helier site to support building improvements .
