Job overview: This is an exciting time to join the Cardiology team at Epsom & St Helier Hospitals as we look to expand our provision of Cardiology services. We are looking for a motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our administrative team and support coordination and scheduling of an expanded programme of work. The successful candidate must be adaptable in their approach and demonstrate a commitment to high-calibre, patient-centred care.

Main duties of the job: The post holder will work closely with the Cardiology Administrative and Clerical team to support the administration and scheduling of day case, inpatient and outpatient activity for the Cardiology service. Act as the point of contact for all administrative and clerical issues relating to a patient’s care pathway, tracking and supporting patients from referral to treatment and/or discharge. Handle patient-facing activity, including managing and supporting queries from patients, clinicians and fellow staff. Excellent telephone skills and IT proficiency are essential. The role requires the postholder to work at both hospital sites for several days each week. A flexible approach, excellent interpersonal skills and high standards of customer service are essential. Person specification:

  • Knowledge: Computer literate, experienced with keyboard entry; Knowledge of databases, spreadsheets e.g. PAS, Excel or similar applications; Knowledge of confidentiality and data protection principles; Knowledge of health and safety; Understanding of equality and diversity principles; Knowledge of NHS service provision including national waiting time standards; Understanding of medical terminology; Knowledge of healthcare administrative systems and processes.
  • Qualifications: General education with GCSE or equivalent in English at grade C or above; ECDL NVQ or working towards NVQ or equivalent.
  • Experience: Experience of using a full range of IT / patient administration systems; Experience working with Cerner; Experience working in a similar patient administration role in a hospital / health care setting.
  • Skills: Knowledge & awareness of diversity and human rights as appropriate to your role; Ability to communicate effectively to ensure high standards of care, treatment, service or support as appropriate to your role; Understanding individual communication, physical & emotional needs; recognising preferences; Ability to provide a customer-focused service; Dealing with customer complaints and experience of customer care; Ability to prioritise tasks effectively without direct supervision; Evidence of workload prioritisation and independent work; Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
