An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, experienced nurse / health visitor / school nurse to join our Specialist Nursing Team to be an integral part of a team providing care for children/young people with a neuro-disability. You will be a core member of the community paediatric multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to promote the health and wellbeing of children and young people and be an expert resource for children, young people and parents/carers with a neuro-disability providing specialist nursing input to a defined caseload of children.
Main duties of the job:
- Develop expertise in the speciality.
- Teach and support staff in the clinical areas.
- Undertake research and audit as required.
- Consider how to gain patient feedback to review and improve services.
- Work alongside Community Paediatricians, supporting them in clinics, undertaking home visits / nursing / school visits etc.
- Co-ordinate care through setting up MDT/TAC meetings.
- Opportunities for training will be available.

Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children is based at the St Helier site. Children are seen in the dedicated Paediatric A&E which sits alongside the adult ED; Outpatient clinics, Ward and assessment unit. The post holder will work with the Paediatric team consisting of Consultant/s with special interest and the post holder with secretarial support by one of the Patient Pathway Co‑ordinators (PPC).

Qualifications and training:
- Registered Nurse – Child or RN Learning Disabilities with relevant experience of working with children and young people with complex health needs and physical disabilities.
- Registered Nurse – Other with a Specialist Community Public Health Nursing qualification.
- Degree in relevant health subject.
- Specialist Community Public Health Nurse – Health Visiting, School Nursing, Community Children’s Nursing.
- Mentorship Course.
- Qualification/module or significant relevant experience within a specialist area.
- Masters qualification – working towards or equivalent experience.
Knowledge:
- Undertaking clinical audit and evaluation.
- Contributing towards service and policy development and review.
- Clear understanding of the current national and local agenda and current issues relating to delivery of community neurodevelopment care.
- Change management and service development.
- Understanding of Care Quality Commission and demonstration of quality and risk management.
- Participating in clinical supervision, writing reports for and attending child protection conferences, child development assessment tools.
